Bob is joined by Iris Eytan, the CEO of Protect Ethical Prosecutors, an organization focused on prosecutorial misconduct and accountability. Etan discusses her career in civil rights, public defense, and criminal defense, and says her path into law was shaped by work with people with mental illness and unhoused teens, as well as by her family background. She explains that her early cases led her to see recurring abuses in the criminal legal system, including failures to disclose evidence and other rule violations. Eytan says the organization was founded to educate the public, build a misconduct database, and pursue legal change in Colorado, including a possible ballot measure after legislative efforts were blocked. Eytan says Protect Ethical Prosecutors wants accountability for intentional, knowing, and reckless misconduct, while not targeting good-faith mistakes. She points to cases such as Richard Glossip’s and a Colorado disbarment case as examples, and encourages people to report misconduct, recognize ethical prosecutors, and get involved.
