Friends,
In this episode, I draw connections between my experiences as an immigrant to the United States and the Gospel of Jesus Christ in light of recent social media experiences. There are things immigrants know that others don’t. The sacrifice is deep—cutting ties with home, family, traditions, and futures imagined. We lose birthdays and funerals, the smell of our mothers' food, and the feeling of our language being spoken without judgment.
And now, as Catholic spaces online erupt with harsh, often dehumanizing rhetoric about immigrants—many of whom are people like me—I feel heartbreak. I exhort listeners to be merciful and mindful about their thoughts and use of language. This episode invites listeners from all backgrounds to reflect on mercy, generosity, and the human cost of freedom.
