“Where are you from?” — What prompts the question and what’s it really asking? Your ethnicity, culture, where you were born, raised, and where you call home are identifiers of who you are. Ideally, you should feel comfortable and proud of who you are. Unfortunately, many people of color in America, instead, can feel fear of not being “American” enough.
