The pandemic changed the way we do everyday things. For caregivers, these changes may mean added stress and a need for resources and help. But did you know that military caregivers experience higher risks of poor health, strained family relationships, and a more immense financial loss than non-military caregivers?

A new study revealed COVID-19 has exacerbated the stress for the 5.5 million caregivers in the U.S. who care for military members and veterans. That's the bad news. Nearly seven million Latinos in the U.S. provide unpaid care to an aging or older loved one. Many Latino family caregivers see caregiving responsibilities simply as something family members do for one another, and do not seek outside help.

Today the face of the Latino caregiver is changing. In this Prepare to Care Podcast, Dr. Jacqueline Angel, professor of public affairs and sociology at the University of Texas at Austin, talked to host Charlene Hunter James. Dr. Angel discusses the change in the Latino Caregiver and what it means.

When it comes to family caregiving, the latest studies show that members of the Asian community face different challenges compared to other Americans. In fact, Asian Americans are almost twice as likely to care for elders than the general population of the same age.

These caregivers face a lot of challenges, but those challenges are complicated when the person being cared for has dementia. But there is an effort to help educate some members of this community.

Currently, there is a study underway that is shedding light on trials and tribulations of Chinese and Korea Caregivers. Dr. Christina Miyawaki, Assistant Professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work and Dr. Kathy Lee, Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work At the University of Texas at Arlington joined Prepare to Care Podcast host, Eddie Orum to talk about the study.
