so it's time for Husband and Wife to play another round of a game called You're Always Wrong.
You may be shocked to learn that we've found a few contradictions in the Bible. No wonder it's so easy to cherry-pick quotes to back up any claim!

a collection of poems, hymns, and prayers that may be regarded as a kind of epitome of the entire range of the Hebrews' religious life. Most of the Psalms are attributed to David, which is obviously bullshit because the pieces were collected over a thousand-year period. Our moods in this book ranged from boredom to mildly annoyed to extremely disgusted. While there were a couple of nice psalms and some beautiful verses, overall, we are just not fans.

Psalm 148: All Creation Exhorted to Praise the LORD. Starts, "Praise ye the Lord from the heavens." Psalms 145 to 148 are given the title "of Haggai and Zechariah." Psalms 148 to 150 are the Laudate Psalms, sung all together as one psalm during the hour of Lauds, also called "Morning Prayer." Do fishes praise the lord? What about the stars?

Psalm 149: Israel Exhorted to Praise the LORD. Starts, "Sing a new song unto the Lord." This psalm calls on the people to be ready to fight, which is a totally loving way to live. Perek Shira is an ancient Jewish text in which elements of creation use biblical and rabbinic verses (for example, Verse 2 of Psalm 149) in order to sing God's many praises. Reminds me of jumping up and down in my bed singing at the top of my lungs about some kid I have a crush on.

Psalm 150: A Call to Praise God with Musical Instruments. Starts, "Praise ye the LORD." According to Kabbalah, the ten expressions of praise in this psalm correspond to... Kabbalistic things. New Age things. Pagan things. Magical things. Mystical things. Silly things.
But now we are done with The Book Psalms! If you've been listening since the beginning of our podcast, CONGRATULATIONS! We have reached the middle book of the Old Testament! Gold stars for you!

Psalm 146: Praise for the LORD's Righteous Acts. Starts, "Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul." Psalm 146 is the first of the five final concluding psalms in the Book of Psalms! Honestly, I can't remember what this psalm was about cuz they're kinda all the same, but there was a note about how God watches over the aliens and we can't wait to ask the aliens how they feel about that.
Psalm 147: Praise for the LORD's Favor to Jerusalem. Starts, "Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises." Psalms 146 and 147 are seen by some as twin Psalms, which totally tracks because I can't remember this one either, but we did have a lengthy argument about coffee things.

Psalm 144: A Prayer for Rescue and Prosperity / David against Goliath. Starts, "Blessed be the LORD my strength." Verse 1 ("Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.") is inscribed on a number of high medieval swords. In 2015, a gun shop in Florida produced an AR-15 named the "Crusader" engraved with Psalm 144:1. The firearm also boasts three settings: Peace, War and God Wills It.
Psalm 145: Praise for the LORD's Goodness and Power. Starts, "I will extol thee, my God, O king." This is the last psalm in the final Davidic collection of psalms, comprising Psalms 138 to 145, which are specifically attributed to David in their opening verses. This is also the last of the nine acrostic Psalms. Huzzah!

Psalm 141: A Prayer for Preservation from Evil. Starts, "Lord, I cry unto thee." The hard copy of this stuff was super messy, so a couple of the verses were corrupt, which means this translation is a "best guess" scenario. Not sure how this doesn't apply to the entire daggone Bible, but okay.
Psalm 142: A Prayer for Help in Trouble. Starts, "I cried unto the LORD with my voice." This psalm is used as a prayer in times of distress. David was such a cryer.
Psalm 143: An Earnest Prayer or Appeal for Deliverance and Guidance. Starts, "Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy." Can you even imagine making demands of a god who smote folks for picking up sticks on the wrong day? This guy has some cajones... or a severe lack of sandwiches in his picnic basket.

Psalm 138: Thanksgiving for the LORD's Favor. Starts, "I will praise thee with my whole heart." This is part of the final Davidic collection of psalms, comprising Psalms 138 through 145, which are specifically attributed to David in their opening verses. We are sick of David, so this is super exciting news! One might even call it "Good News" — not to be confused with that whole evangelical Christian Good News. We mean ACTUAL Good News. Selah, David!
Psalm 139: God's Omnipresence and Omniscience. Starts, "O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me." According to some Bible enthusiasts, Psalm 139 was written by Adam, but that feels super unlikely given that Adam wasn't presented as a guy who liked to write stuff down. Psalm 139 is often used as a source of support for the LGBTQIA+ community, for we are each "fearfully and wonderfully made" according to the Bible, which means none of us is a mistake, regardless of our gender, outer identification, or sexual orientation. Translation: You are beautiful! And that's a fact.
Psalm 140: A Prayer for Protection against Persecutors / Prayer for Deliverance from Evil Men. Starts, "Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man." More curses for bad luck and harm to befall evil men. This book has such a loving message. Wishing disaster and hardship unto your enemies is a very Bible methodology. Kisses!
