SAGs Rundown + Documentary Shorts Recap - ORC 4/6/21

Listen Later

We recap the SAG Happy Hour Awards Show, and then we review the documentary short subject nominated films. It’s a major Oscar Race Checkpoint for the first 40 minutes before we’re surprised by how much we liked the first set of shorts.

The Screen Actors Guild opted for an hour long Awards Show overstuffed with celebrity “actOR” interviews about uh… well… nothing. Dame Helen Mirren saw a bear in the woods. Yay. So we reviewed the actual SAG broadcast and summarized the TV and Stunt award sections for the first 10 minutes.
Then we dive into the 5 big categories that’ll potentially affect the Oscars. Should we lock the supporting actor trophy after Daniel Kaluuya continued his sweep? How formidable did Yuh-jung Youn become after winning supporting actress? And how many words will we need to eat (sigh) about the lead categories? Relive this pivotal step in how we’ll project these acting categories before we dive into another big chat about Best Picture with how the SAG Ensemble Award has factored in statistically and historically, especially in recent years.
Before we finish this Oscar Race Checkpoint, we need to begin our reviews of the Short Subjects, and today, we tackle the Documentary Shorts. It’s an unusually rewarding field of 5 films, and we do have a lot of praise to give. So do check them out.
Otherwise, and as always, we want to hear your thoughts. We’re at MMandOscar on Twitter, and we are at Mike, Mike, and Oscar on Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and Gmail. We’re Mike, Mike, & Oscar, and we’re making awards season year round, without the stuffiness. Thank you! And do stay safe, everybody.
