Now we’ll read his opening argument against the heresy plaguing the congregation at Colossae. How does one explain a complex doctrine like Christology in a short amount of time? With a song. Today we come to the end of chapter seven as we finish up the section about the consumption of the holy food. One short divine speech makes it clear that we are not to eat any fat or blood from the Peace Offering. Another divine speech specifies which parts of the meat are given to the priests. Why must the fat be burned up before the priests get their portion? How does this divine speech contrast with the way Eli’s wicked sons demanded their portion of the raw meat? How do the sacred meals of the Sin Offering and the Reparation Offering and the Peace Offering find their fulfillment in the Lord’s Supper today? Your comments and questions are encouraged. What makes Jesus cry? In our Gospel lesson, Jesus depicts Himself as a mother hen who wants to gather her chicks under her wings. When Jerusalem rejects Jesus, He weeps over the city. It made Jesus cry when He did not get what He wanted. Are Jesus’ tears a sign of weakness or something else?

We continue our Lenten series, “Guilt by Association” with a look at betrayal. When Jesus was betrayed by His friend, He took on that friend’s guilt. He has called us friends, too….

Lesson 1: Our first look at Paul’s letter to the Christians in the city of Colossae begins today. We’ll start with a look at the city itself and what was going on at the time of Paul’s writing.

In one divine speech, which Moses is told to address to Aaron and his sons, the LORD gives us the Torah of the Sin Offering and the Torah of the Reparation Offering and the Torah of the Peace Offering. These ritual instructions are addressed to the priests because they are the ones who are authorized to eat the most holy food. God provides daily bread for the priests and their families. At the same time, God shares His holiness with the priests. How does the Peace Offering differ from the Sin Offering and the Reparation Offering? How may a Peace Offering also be a sacrifice of thanksgiving? What do these offerings teach us about Jesus? Your comments and questions are encouraged. All are welcome.

WELCOME to this hour of Lenten meditation in the shadow of the cross of Jesus. The rugged cross behind the lectern is made from the trunk of one of the Christmas trees that adorned our chancel during the Advent and Christmas seasons. The connection between Jesus’ birth and His death reminds us that Jesus is “the Firstborn from among the dead” (Colossians 1:18). The cross stands between His birth and His resurrection – and the same holds true for us.

Our mid-week Lenten sermon series this year is “Guilt by Association,” based on the Passion narrative in Saint Luke’s Gospel. This week we consider how Jesus’ prayers in Gethsemane portray the burden of guilt that He bore for us.

Journeys can be long and hard. Even when we have high expectations for the end, how do we make it through until then?
