Salt Circle Podcast

This week's episode is all about Pokémon. The video games, the card games, the video game of the card game, the comic of the games, the show, the movies. There's a lot to cover.

The good, the bad and the Trubbish.

This week Ben and Hank are talking about Airplane! and the movie it lifts its plot and a lot of its dialogue from Zero Hour!

Zero Hour! Is a pretty forgotten film on its own, but it was immortalized within its own parody which played much of the same story and dialogue straight, plus jokes. This is mostly about enjoying and giving a spotlight to a film that's mostly remembered as an answer to a trivia question.

It's another podcast on Magic: the Gathering with Ben and Hank talking about the current state of the Arena (Magic's answer to Hearthstone) closed Beta now that the NDA has been dropped. There's some discussion about MTGO and the Duels of the Planeswalker games that have come before it. They talk about their issues with Arena, the things it does get right and their hopes for the future as the game continues to develop.

They were gonna talk about some other Magic stuff too, but the Arena talk took up the whole podcast so... none of that. Just Arena talk here folks.

This week is all about the Magic: the Gathering format of Commander, or EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander) as it is also known. EDH is a casual format of Magic focused more on fun, splashy interactions and multiplayer politics than the standard competitive formats.

They talk about why they love the format and how it's become the most popular format of Magic to come from outside Wizards of the Coast. They talk about their early experiences with the format, the good and the bad times, and the things they've learned along the way.

Ben and Hank discuss some Mel Brooks movies (Mostly Blazing Saddles) this week before going off into some tangents on various related topics like why Dracula sucks, Monty Python and the way it ruins people, and Star Wars because of course.

Part one in a series where Ben and Hank talk about some of the media that has proved the most important and influential in their lives. They kick this idea off with a 2 hour talk about video games. These are pretty surface level talks about the games just broad stories about certain games that made a memorable impact.

Some good stories in there.

This week Ben and Hank are talking about some in continuity Star Wars comics. Specifically these:

Star Wars (2015) Vol 1-5 [1-30, plus 2 Annuals]

Star Wars: Darth Vader (2015) Vol. 1-5 [1-25], plus"Vader Down" one-shot and an annual]

Star Wars: Darth Maul (2017) [1-5]

Star Wars: Obi-Wan & Anakin (2016) [1-5]

Star Wars: Darth Maul—Son of Dathomir (2014) [1-4]

They veer into just talking about a bunch of unrelated star wars stuff by the end, but this is certaintly a 100% Star Wars podcast. Find out why the main series are good and the mini-series are bad!

A lot of it is just that Darth Maul sucks.

This week's episode is all about the first season/series of Digimon, Digimon Adventure. This is a show that's very nostalgic and important to Hank that Ben really has no attachment to (though he cares a little more about the subsequent seasons which will get their own episodes eventually). So Hank does the heavy lifting on this one giving a full plot rundown of the season along the way to talking about what made the show what it is and why it's special to him.

Also hear about how Ben couldn't watch the show because Pokemon was demonic or whatever.

WARNING THIS IS NOT A NORMAL EPISODE

As a special Valentine's Day episode Ben and Hank decided to do a Commentary track for the most Romantic film of out times: Tommy Wiseau's The Room. Hank has seen the film many times and been to several theater screenings but Ben has never seen it and really doesn't know what he's in for. So, find your own copy of the film and join us on this adventure.

Or not, I'm not your fucking mother.

The bulk of the episode is them going back and forth giving shoutouts to the music that mattered to them in 2017.
