GOVT SHUTDOWN: The feeling of déjà vu is inescapable for San Antonians and other Texans in predominantly military communities as Congress edges closer to a government shutdown.

The resulting furloughs of civilian workers would ripple through 15 major active-duty and reserve installations across the state, bases that make up the Lone Star State’s federal golden egg, pumping an estimated $150 billion a year into the economy. TEXAS ENERGY: Texas blew past winter power use records Wednesday morning as residents cranked up heaters across the state and a winter chill broke multiple temperature records — but there were no rolling blackouts. The state’s grid operator, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, said that between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday, consumers used 65,731 megawatts of power, exceeding a record of more than 63,000 megawatts used Tuesday night.
