In this episode of Kalaththulli, Kulasegaram Sanchayan focuses on Catherine Helen Spence, one of the most prolific Australian authors who drew a vivid picture of South Australia through her writings and lectures; and contributed to the accomplishment of the women’s suffrage movement and showed extraordinary resilience in transcending patriarchal restrictions on rightful activities. Spence dedicated her life for the education of girl children and betterment of the poor.

Kaya [Hello] is an exciting new work of cross-cultural dance theatre by Ochre Dance being created in remote and regional WA.  Choreographed by the dancers, devised through intense dramaturgy and improvisation, the work combines a variety of Indigenous dance cultures (Nyoongar, Wongi and Bundjulung) with world-dance techniques (Indian, Maori, Western Contemporary and Classical) in a unique fusion of dynamic dance and music.  Kulasegaram Sanchayan talks to Indian siblings Isha Sharvani and Tao Issaro (Daksha Sheth Dance, India), who are members of Kaya[Hello].

In this episode of Kalaththulli, Kulasegaram Sanchayan focuses on Australia’s first traffic lights being installed on 13 October 1933 in Sydney.  It was another 32 years before the nation’s capital, Canberra, received its first two sets of traffic lights, on 23 October 1965.
