  • Episode 15 - A Nightmare on Elm Street, "It's real...I'm reaaallll."

Attempted Topics is back after a short hiatus and is back to uploading on a consistent schedule.

Jeremy and Steven kick off the nightmare-of-a-year 2021 by talking about the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Jeremy talks about how Freddy Krueger is totally unlikable in the worst way in this remake, and explains how an audience should be able to "like" the villain of a slasher movie. Steven discusses his irritation with some of the choices they tried to go for and complains about how the actors look 25-30 years old and are playing teenagers. Also what's up with Freddy's face? It's A Nightmare on Elm Street but with jokes about childhood trauma, bad CGI, and everything is blue and orange.

Jeremy drools over Mary Elizabeth Winstead and gets confused because every girl in this movie seems the same, Steven discusses his love for the 1974 and 2006 Black Christmas films and explains how the ending of this movie could've been better before the studio ruined it, and Shawn does some Shawn-like things. Also they delve into the unfortunate path that director Glen Morgan's career took after this film and why him and this film deserve another chance.

  • Episode 13 - The Happening, Marky Mark vs. Plants

The Attempted Topics gang discusses M. Night Shyamalan's most divisive(?) film, The Happening. Jeremy talks about how revisiting this film ruined it for him, while Steven gets a new perspective and sees how there is a good story but it's written and acted terribly. Is it a comedy? Is it plants? Do hot dogs get a bad rap? Why is Mark Wahlberg talking in such a high voice? What happened to M. Night Shyamalan's ability to make a good movie? We try to figure it all out and find out what's...happening...in this movie. Get it?

  • Episode 12 - The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 200 Million Dollar Sony Commercial
In this episode, Jeremy and Steven discuss a film that has divided them for years. TASM2 is Steven's favorite super hero film but Jeremy has hated it. Jeremy explains why he thinks there is a good movie in there but it's buried with all the different stories going on, Steven explains why he loves the villains and why he thinks Andrew Garfield is the best Spider-Man, and Shawn stops in for a brief cameo. They also discuss where this franchise was supposed to go with "The Sinister Six" and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 before they were cancelled, and did Sony spend 200 million dollars on a commercial disguised as a Spider-Man film?

  • Episode 10 - Terrifier, Technical Difficulties Run Wild on Us

We've reached double digits! In episode 10 of Attempted Topics the group discusses the 2016 slasher film Terrifier. They discuss if new slasher icons could exist in today's horror movie climate, the very interesting production of this movie, is Art's name actually Arthur The Clown, why Tara is a perfect "final girl", and why using the Halloween holiday in your movie is a weird way of making your villain act like a weirdo.

In an attempt to fix the quality issues that have plagued the first 9 episodes of the podcast we decided to try something new to record and unfortunately we were met with many technical difficulties so this episode ended up being about 20 minutes shorter than a normal episode. BUT we are giving you 2 episodes this week to make up for it. Stay tuned for Friday, November 13th. *wink*

  • Episode 7 - Donnie Darko Explained Very Poorly

The crew discusses the 2001 cult classic Donnie Darko. What is Donnie Darko about? Does it make sense? What the hell are a tangent universe and a manipulated living? And do smurfs have sex? We have no idea but we'll try to explain it all. Jeremy gets to discuss his #1 favorite movie of all time and his hatred for the sequel S. Darko, Meatball talks about her experiences revisiting the movie years later, Steven tells us about his film idea titled "The Floor is Lava", and everyone doubts Shawn's commitment to Attempted Topics.
