When the new Institute for Cancer Care is being designed, industrial planners, staff & physician teams will all have input on it’s schematic. But SMH can’t build a patient-centered facility without their input as well.

As cancer cases continue to increase, SMH plans to expand the existing team of experts in the near future. Making sure that the patient’s care plan is smooth and time efficient will be an important part of the new Institute for Cancer Care

When SMH’s new Institute opens, it will provide a place for the entire cancer team to work on the individual patient’s care. The continuum of care will include all of the supportive care programs that currently exist – all in one place.

Sarasota Memorial will open a new facility called The Institute for Cancer Care. Slated to open in a couple of years, the new facility will provide comprehensive care for the cancer patient.

Once a patient is discharged, they can have up to 8 medications to take. Side effects, dosages and simply remembering to take them are common problems once patients are home. SMH provides a very detailed discharge document, a hotline for questions, and caregiver support.

As a NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) designated Hospital, SMH has committed to elder care while in the hospital and before the patient goes home. The special markers will give health care providers enhanced skills to care for the aging population.
