In this episode, I talk with Aisha Manus, who holds the title of Mrs Georgia United States in the Mrs United States pageant. We talk about how she got into pageants, and how she's using her title to combat period poverty with Cloth Connection Outreach, a non-profit that distributes reusable menstrual products to those who need them. They are a fantastic organization that not only distributes important products, but offers a more sustainable option when it comes to menstrual products. Aisha will be competing in Palm Beach, Florida on October 11-15. 2020 for the Mrs United States title.
Sash and Sustainability is the podcast hosted by Samantha Shenton, where I put my two passions together, pageants and environmentalism. Thank you for listening, and check out my other episodes while you're here. I release episodes every other Sunday.

Welcome back to the Sash and Sustainability podcast; hosted by Samantha Shenton, we discuss environmentalism and pageantry. Episode 9, I answer an Instagram message that addresses some important conversations that we should be having pertaining to pageantry and sustainability.
As a person living in both the pageant world and the zero waste world, what are some ways that pageant life, from prepping for a pageant all that way to showtime, express consumerism/materialism?
What are some ways that it expresses zero/low waste?
How could things change for pageant life to become more zero/low waste?

This week's episode I talk about what environmental racism is and why it relates to the Black Lives Matter movement. This may be one of the most important topics I talk about on my platform and I encourage every one of you listening to check out the resources to gain more knowledge on the growing problem of racism that is relevant worldwide.
I may not understand, but I stand. #BlackLivesMatter

Thank you for tuning in for another episode of Sash and Sustainability. I'll be discussing shopping bags, both paper and plastic we find at the grocery stores and malls, and what we can be using for alternatives. This is a great way to start your low-waste journey in cutting down the amount of waste we create, and it really doesn't make much effort. The biggest thing to remember is to not be tempted to take the single-use bag when the associate of a store asks you.
