Brian welcomes filmmaker Marq Evans, director of the new documentary Capturing Bigfoot, for a deep dive into the film, the newly discovered footage at the center of it, and the questions it raises about one of the most famous pieces of Bigfoot history.

The story began in June 2022, when Evans received an email from Teresa Brooks about a 16mm film reel her late father, Norm Johnson, had kept locked in a safe since the 1960s. At first, there was hope the reel might contain unknown Patterson-Gimlin material. But after the film was professionally scanned, Evans discovered something different: camera-original footage that became one of the central mysteries explored in the documentary.

Marq explains the extensive research behind the project, including hundreds of hours spent digging through books, archival material, and more than 130 Greg Long interview tapes. He also discusses conversations with key figures including Bob Gimlin, Jeff Meldrum, Bill Munns, Iva DeAtley, and Bob Heironimus, along with the connections between Norm and Dave Johnson, Roger Patterson, Boeing, and Chinook Press.

Brian and Marq also get into the controversy surrounding the footage, what it could mean for the history of the Patterson-Gimlin Film, and the rumors surrounding encounters at the Yakima Bigfoot Conference.

Marq explains what actually happened, how those moments were handled during production, and what he hopes viewers take away from Capturing Bigfoot.

The documentary is scheduled for release on Amazon Prime Video on October 20, along with select theatrical screenings and filmmaker Q&A events.

Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel is back with two more amazing encounter stories from the Alaska wilderness—both involving strange behavior, vocal mimicry, thrown objects, and creatures that seemed to know exactly how to keep their witnesses off balance.

The first account takes us to Troublesome Creek near the Susitna River, where Jenna and Mark began hearing something in the brush perfectly imitate Jenna’s laugh and Mark saying, “Stop that.” Mark soon caught sight of a broad, hunched, gray-white-haired humanoid moving through the trees and repeating Jenna’s giggle.

Then things escalated. Jenna spotted three smaller figures racing past them. A stick came flying from the brush, prompting her to fire her handgun, and the couple made a desperate retreat across the creek. As they tried to get away, Mark was struck squarely in the chest by a precisely thrown rock. Moments later, a powerful siren-like scream rolled through the valley.

Fred also shares the story of Rick, who traveled into the backcountry north of Tanana in late August to scatter his mother’s ashes. What began as a deeply personal trip turned frightening when something appeared to smother his campfire, watched him from behind a tree, and began tossing pinecones into the flames.

As the encounter continued, Rick became convinced that something was manipulating his route through the wilderness. After firing warning shots, he abandoned the trip and retreated to his pickup point, where he spent a long night listening to disturbing sounds in the darkness before catching an early flight out.

Two remote Alaska encounters. Two witnesses pushed to the breaking point. And two more stories suggesting that whatever people are encountering in the wilderness may be far more intelligent—and unpredictable—than expected.

In Part Two of Brian’s conversation with Matt from Texas, the story moves from the highway encounter that changed his life to what happened when he began actively searching for answers.

Matt takes us onto a secluded 500-acre property along a Central Texas river, where he says the activity has continued throughout 2026. He has documented unusual tracks, broken limbs, possible tree structures, repeated wood knocks, and strange vocalizations—and some of his most compelling experiences have happened when he tried interacting with whatever may be out there.

On September 6, Matt heard a tree snap near the same area where he had encountered a powerful, unexplained odor months earlier. He moved toward the location while filming and says he was met with several seconds of an unmistakable growl, followed by roughly fifteen seconds of heavy breathing. He also describes experiments involving alleged Bigfoot recordings, including an “angry Bigfoot” vocalization and a strange humming sound. 

Playing them into the woods appeared to trigger responses ranging from wood knocks to what Matt believed were heavy, bipedal footsteps moving nearby. Those experiences have also made him question whether attempting to provoke a reaction could damage the trust he believes he has slowly developed with the creatures on the property. Matt discusses tracks of noticeably different sizes that have led him to suspect there may be an adult female and a younger individual using the area.

He also recounts a May 17 sighting of a light reddish or copper-colored figure and a remarkable series of tree knocks recorded during the same outing.Then there is the evidence he discovered on his truck.On April 19, Matt found what appeared to be a large handprint on the vehicle. He carefully lifted the print with tape and later had it photographed and examined with assistance from local law enforcement.

He is now working with Doug Hajicek to explore whether material from the print could potentially be tested for DNA or skin oils.

From unexplained tracks and vocal responses to a fleeting sighting and a physical print that may still hold answers, Part Two follows Matt deeper into a mystery that began with one unforgettable Bigfoot encounter on a Texas highway—and has only become stranger since.

This week on Sasquatch Odyssey, Brian welcomes Matt from Texas for the first installment of a two-part interview about an encounter that completely changed the direction of his life.

On the morning of May 20, 2019, Matt was driving an 18-wheeler loaded with fuel south on Highway 84 between Abilene and Coleman, Texas. Severe storms and tornadoes had torn through the area two days earlier, and as Matt approached the small community of Silver Valley, his attention was focused on the damage along the highway.

Then he noticed what he first thought was a black bull near the road.A second look made him think it was an enormous hog. Then it stood and began walking.As Matt closed the distance, he realized he was looking at something unlike anything he had ever seen before: an enormous, jet-black, muscular figure moving upright through the bright green grass toward the tree line.

Matt estimates the creature stood between seven and a half and eight feet tall, with massive shoulders, extraordinarily thick arms and legs, and a body he believes could have weighed close to a thousand pounds.

For nearly a minute, Matt watched from the cab of his truck as the figure moved across the open ground. At his closest point, he estimates he was only about 50 to 75 yards away. Then it reached the woods and seemed to disappear into the darkness.

But the encounter didn't end there. After delivering his load in Coleman, Matt immediately headed back toward the location. 

As he approached the area again, he encountered multiple sheriff's vehicles slowly driving the shoulders of the highway, appearing to search the same stretch of road where he had seen the creature. Matt has always wondered whether another motorist—or possibly a nearby road crew—had seen something that morning and called law enforcement. The experience sent Matt into a research journey that has now lasted more than seven years. 

He returned to the encounter site, began studying reports from across Texas, attended the Texas Bigfoot Conference, and eventually had several personal conversations with the late Dr. Jeff Meldrum, whose advice to “never stop looking” became a guiding principle in Matt's search.

In Part One, Matt takes us through the sighting in remarkable detail—the creature's size, movement, muscle structure, unusual behavior, and the exact moments that transformed Bigfoot from something he barely thought about into something he says he knows is real. And this was only the beginning.

In Part Two, Matt's story moves beyond that first highway encounter and into seven years of boots-on-the-ground research, tracks, possible evidence, close-range activity, and another sighting in the Texas woods.

Fred from the SubArctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel is back with two disturbing “hairy man” accounts from remote Alaska.The first takes us to the Yukon River in 1986–87, where brothers Charles and Jacob were running skiffs for a guided hunting operation.

Near a remote transfer point, they spotted an enormous, unusually colored figure standing roughly 150 to 200 yards away. Covered in thick hair and far taller than any man, it suddenly stood and began moving rapidly in their direction.

The brothers ran for their boats. As Charles fought to restart a flooded outboard, Jacob fired a rifle shot in an attempt to scare the figure off. Their boss quickly came over the VHF, warning them to stop discussing what they had seen where hunting clients could hear.Later, back at camp, one of those clients quietly admitted that he had seen the same figure near the transfer area.

Fred also shares several shorter reports from around Ruby before turning to an even more unsettling story from the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

In 1958, a young winter caretaker named George was alone at a remote camp when his sled dogs suddenly became terrified. Over the following hours, three dogs disappeared, one was violently thrown onto the roof of the cabin, and George’s sled was torn apart.

Then something appeared at the window.George described a massive, heavily built creature with an intelligent, almost human expression staring back at him through the glass. Realizing he could no longer remain at the camp, he gathered the surviving dogs and escaped into the winter darkness by dogsled.

Two encounters separated by nearly thirty years, both from some of the most isolated country in Alaska, and both describing something far larger—and far more deliberate—than any ordinary animal.

Part Seven brings Born Wild: Koda’s Odyssey, Volume Two to a close while quietly opening the door to everything that comes next.

The story returns to the clearing where so much of Koda and Eli’s journey began, the same place where a frightened human boy once left gifts for a curious young sasquatch.

One year later, the two sit together and look back on everything they have built: the alliance, the sacrifices, the dangers, and a friendship that should never have been possible in the first place. 

As Eli faces a choice between the life he has known and the one he is beginning to understand, the final chapter settles into a quieter, more reflective moment. It is an ending built around trust, connection, and the possibility that fear does not have to decide what happens when two very different worlds finally meet.

But Volume Two does not end there.

Once the main story closes, Part Seven shifts into an extended preview of Volume Three and reveals that someone believed to be dead is still alive. Far to the west, beneath the desert at a secret installation known as Site Seven, Adanowa has spent the last year imprisoned, cataloged, cut open, tested, and studied as if he were nothing more than a specimen.

Then, in the darkness beneath the facility, he finds something he never expected: an ally. Skull is a Dogman born in captivity, hardened by the only world he has ever known. Somehow, two creatures who should have every reason to distrust one another become the unlikeliest of friends.

Together, they find a way out.Their escape changes everything. Adanowa is now heading east, back toward the clans that once believed him lost, with Skull walking beside him. And that means he is returning home alongside the very kind of creature his people are already at war with.

The friendship forged beneath Site Seven is about to collide with old loyalties, old hatred, and a conflict that is far from over.

This is the end of Volume Two.It is also the beginning of the next chapter.

Brian welcomes Linda from California and longtime Bigfoot researcher David Raygoza for a firsthand encounter and the investigation that followed.Linda shares how the Patterson-Gimlin film first sparked her interest in Bigfoot before strange experiences in the forests around Shasta and the Trinity Alps made the subject much more personal.

Then, on June 28 near the Shaver Lake area, she saw something she couldn't explain.Standing roughly 50 yards away in a meadow near power lines was an enormous, long-haired figure she estimated at 8 to 10 feet tall. Broad, muscular, and completely motionless, the creature remained in full daylight long enough for Linda to get a clear look.

When Linda later returned to the area, she connected with researcher David Raygoza. A former science teacher and high school principal with more than 25 years of Bigfoot research experience, including work with the BFRO, David investigated the site and discovered several barefoot tracks measuring approximately 12 to 15 inches long, some showing only four toes.

David also shares several of his own encounters from decades in the field, including a remarkable 15-minute observation, an encounter with a massive individual he describes as an “old man,” a younger Sasquatch filmed near an apple, and a small juvenile.

He also recounts a strange investigation near Henry Cowell State Park involving a movie director, unexplained nighttime activity, and mysterious footprints.

For Linda, the experience wasn't terrifying. It left her even more curious—and more willing to trust the inner voice that sometimes tells her when it's time to leave the woods.

Fred from the SubArctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel is back with one of the strangest and most unsettling wilderness stories he has shared yet. Curtis, James, and their friend Mike had spent years saving for the chance to fly into a remote stretch of Alaska near the Kuskokwim River.

What was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime quickly turned into something none of them could explain. Soon after arriving, Curtis heard Mike and James talking outside the tent, only to discover neither man was there.

From that point forward, the trip became increasingly bizarre. The three men experienced an unexplained lapse in time, confusion over what they had been doing, boots that seemed to have been switched, Mike’s boots disappearing entirely, and rifles turning up in places where no one remembered leaving them.

Then came the sounds. Powerful screams carried through the wilderness. Strange whistles circled the camp. Something repeatedly swiped at the tent with what sounded like a large hand. In the darkness, the men spotted distant eye shine that appeared green before shifting to red.

Gear continued to disappear, including their camp stove, while Mike began waking up away from the others on a nearby game trail with no memory of how he had gotten there.

The group eventually moved camp, but whatever had been following them seemed to move with them. Mike’s missing boots were suddenly thrown back into camp, and later a large, dark, hairy figure briefly grabbed the tent and pulled at it before disappearing into the darkness.

By the time their pilot returned, Curtis, James, and Mike were desperate to leave. But the story did not end when the plane arrived. The pilot also spotted a large dark figure near the camp and made an even more disturbing admission: this was not the first time people flying into that area had reported seeing something unusual.

Missing time. Stolen gear. Mimicked voices. Strange lights in the darkness. And something large moving just beyond the edge of camp.

This is a remote Alaska trip that went wrong in ways none of them were prepared for.

Part Six of Born Wild: Koda's Odyssey, Volume Two settles into the hardest work in the whole story, and there isn't a single punch thrown in it.

The emergency council runs deep past midnight, and for the first time sasquatch, Dog men, and humans are all in the same clearing trying to build something instead of tearing it down.

The immediate crisis has passed. Dask's offer of cooperation has been met, cautiously, and now comes the part nobody's good at.

The details. Where the boundaries fall, what counts as a violation, who answers for it when someone crosses a line. None of these peoples has ever trusted the others, and every one of them has a reason not to start now.

Into that standoff steps an unlikely figure. Eli, the boy with no rank and no claws and no official standing, turns out to be the one voice all three sides can hear, precisely because he threatens none of them. What he offers isn't strength. It's a different way of looking at a problem the older ones have been too angry, or too proud, to solve.

This is the quiet center of the book, where the story stops asking who can win a fight and starts asking whether old enemies can actually choose something better.

The answer doesn't come easy, and it doesn't come clean, and the forest beyond the firelight hasn't stopped being dangerous just because a few of them decided to talk.

What gets built here is fragile. Whether it holds is a question for the road still ahead.

In this episode, Brian welcomes two guests with remarkable Bigfoot encounters that span decades and stretch from the mountains of North Carolina to the swamps of Connecticut.

First, North Carolina truck driver Dwayne shares a startling daylight sighting along Highway 18 near Kings Creek School. Traveling the familiar two-lane road in late April roughly two years ago, Dwayne watched an estimated eight-foot-tall, black, powerfully built creature cross the highway directly in front of him. 

In only five or six enormous strides, it covered the road, stepped over a roughly three-foot guardrail without breaking pace, and disappeared into the thick woods on the opposite side. The encounter sent Dwayne searching through local Bigfoot reports, Appalachian folklore, and stories passed down through families around the Linville Gorge, Watauga County, and the surrounding North Carolina mountains.

That search leads Brian into the historical record and an old newspaper story Dwayne remembered as dating to 1888. While investigating the claim, Brian uncovers a verified December 14, 1877, account from the Charlotte Daily Observer, reprinted from the Statesville Landmark, describing a mysterious “Wild Man” reportedly seen prospecting in the Globe Valley near Blowing Rock.

 Witnesses described a hairy figure beating its chest and retreating toward a cave, offering a fascinating glimpse into Appalachian wild-man traditions decades before the term “Bigfoot” entered the American vocabulary.

Brian also examines how seriously these nineteenth-century reports should be taken in an era when sensational newspaper stories and outright hoaxes were common. From there, the conversation explores Daniel Boone’s famous late-life story of encountering and killing what he reportedly called a “Yahoo,” the heavily publicized 1978 and 1979 sightings of the creature known as “Nobby” near Carpenter’s Knob, and a much more recent 911 report from 2010.

Then Brian welcomes Steve, now living in North Carolina, who takes the story back to 1986 and one of the closest encounters ever shared on the show. While stationed at a submarine facility in Connecticut, Steve went squirrel hunting before daylight in the Assetunk Swamp. As morning arrived, he heard something moving through the woods and initially assumed it was a deer.

 Instead, an enormous hairy figure stepped across the trail less than thirty feet away. Steve estimates the creature stood at least nine feet tall, with dark skin, heavy hair, and a surprisingly human-looking face. Rather than immediately retreating, Steve moved closer, eventually getting within roughly fifteen feet before the creature looked down at him and exploded through the woods with enough force to sound, in his words, like a bulldozer.

When Steve circled ahead and unknowingly cut off its path, the encounter changed. The creature unleashed a deep growl powerful enough that Steve says he could feel it throughout his body. Armed only with a sixteen-gauge double-barrel shotgun, he decided it was time to back away.Steve continued hunting the area afterward without another direct confrontation, but his experiences did not end in Connecticut.

Since returning to North Carolina, he describes unexplained tree movements, possible vocalizations, strange nighttime sounds, unusual activity around his property, and other incidents that have kept him interested in the mystery. 

His approach, however, remains skeptical. Steve prefers going into the woods without assuming Bigfoot is responsible for every unexplained sound or broken branch, looking instead for evidence and conventional explanations first.

Brian and Steve also discuss one of the biggest divisions within modern Bigfoot research: whether these creatures are undiscovered biological animals or something far stranger. 

Both remain skeptical of claims involving portals, cloaking, interdimensional travel, and extraterrestrial connections without physical evidence to support them. The conversation turns to the continuing absence of a confirmed body or scientifically accepted DNA sample, and the frustration that comes from decades of extraordinary eyewitness testimony without the definitive physical evidence needed to settle the question.

From an eight-foot figure crossing a North Carolina highway in broad daylight to a nine-foot creature standing only yards from a hunter in a Connecticut swamp, this episode connects modern encounters with more than a century of Appalachian stories about wild men, hairy giants, and unexplained creatures lurking just beyond the tree line.
