  • The new song - Redemption through the blood of the Lamb
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; (Revelation 5:9) *1/ A new song. 2/ The singers. 3/ What they sang.* **Sermon Summary:** The sermon centers on Revelation 5:9, highlighting the worthiness of Jesus Christ to open the sealed book due to His sacrificial death and redemptive work. It explores the 'new song' sung by the redeemed from every nation, emphasizing that salvation is achieved solely through the blood of the Lamb. The message contrasts Satan's kingdom with God's sovereign plan, assuring believers of ultimate victory and the establishment of a new creation. By examining the context of Revelation, the preacher illustrates how Christ's authority supersedes all earthly and spiritual powers. The congregation is encouraged to join this heavenly chorus by recognizing their own redemption and living in faithful obedience.

  • The Verdict and Sentence of Pilate's Court
Luke tells us of three hearings that Jesus has before secular judges: first before Pilate where he is declared not guilty; a hearing before Herod, who also finds no guilt; and a final hearing before Pilate where twice more Pilate declares him not guilty before sentencing him to death and releasing a murdering insurrectionist. How did this trial go so wrong? As we consider Jesus trial, we also consider the meaning of Jesus' atoning death? Is the atonement directed towards man as the 'Moral Influence Theory' teaches -- Jesus giving man the ultimate example of love to correct their selfish behaviour? Or is this the 'Ransom to Satan' or 'Christus Victor' as its so often called in our era -- the atonement is directed towards Satan, ransoming humans from his evil power? Or is the atonement directed to God the Father as the 'Penal Substitutionary Theory' teaches, satisfying justice by a willing substitute so that the sinners debt can be erased.

  • A Slave to His Brother Jesus
The sermon introduces the book of James by analyzing the author's humble self-identification as a bondservant rather than emphasizing his apostolic status or familial relationship to Jesus. This choice highlights the theological truth that all believers are slaves to either God or Satan, with salvation being solely an act of divine grace and sovereign election. The preacher contrasts this spiritual reality with human tendencies toward prejudice and judging by outward appearance, urging the church to treat all members with equal hospitality regardless of social status. By examining James's transformation from a skeptic to a believer, the message underscores that genuine faith inevitably produces good works as a response to God's mercy. Ultimately, the text serves as an encouragement for Christians to rest in the gospel and extend that same grace to others.

  • The Fear of the Lord
The sermon emphasizes the critical need for spiritual discernment to distinguish between truth and deception, particularly regarding the identity of Christ versus Satan. It explores Proverbs chapter one as a manual for gaining wisdom, knowledge, and discretion necessary to navigate life's complexities and avoid foolishness. The preacher argues that true wisdom begins with a healthy fear of the Lord, which serves as a deterrent against sin and leads to right judgment. Rejecting this divine instruction results in spiritual blindness and eventual judgment, while heeding it brings safety and peace. Ultimately, the message urges believers to actively seek God's wisdom through Scripture to live faithfully and avoid the consequences of rejecting His counsel.
