  • Go Home and Tell What the Lord Has Done
Jesus crosses into the country of the Gerasenes and confronts a man enslaved by a legion of demons, a man whom no human power could restrain or restore. With sovereign authority, Christ delivers him, restores him to his right mind, and sends him home to tell what the Lord has done for him and how He has shown him mercy. Mark 5:1–20 reveals Jesus Christ as the mighty and merciful Savior who enters places of ruin, overcomes the powers of darkness, restores ruined sinners by His grace, and sends the redeemed to bear witness to His mercy. This passage confronts us with four great realities: the ruin of man under sin and Satan, the absolute authority of Jesus Christ, the danger of preferring our idols to the presence of Christ, and the calling of every redeemed sinner to testify to the mercy of God. There is no sinner beyond Christ's reach, no bondage stronger than His saving power, and no legion too great for the Son of God.

  • Cremation, Temptation, Intercalation
This year's final instalment of Provoke The Pastor focuses on three primary questions. There's a good chance you might learn a new word when we get to the final one. But I have a Labor Day special for you! Two questions that aren't in our sermon title. The answers are brief and simple to understand. 1 - (Bonus Question): Can an unmarried man be a deacon or elder? 2 - (Bonus Question): What about people who trust in Christ alone by faith alone but reject the natural meaning of Genesis? 3 - Cremation: Where in the Bible do we go to support cremation? 4 - Temptation: Does Satan have the ability to put thoughts in the mind of a believer? If I am indwelt by the Holy Spirit, how can Satan target my mind? What are his "schemes" against me? 5 - Intercalation: How did it come to be that some Bible translations include phrases or whole verses not in other translations?

  • Beware Syncretism
The sermon warns against syncretism, the dangerous blending of true Christian faith with false religions and pagan philosophies. It traces this spiritual adultery from Old Testament Israel's worship of idols alongside Yahweh to New Testament heresies like Gnosticism and modern cultural compromises. The speaker emphasizes that God demands exclusive devotion and condemns any attempt to mix pure doctrine with worldly or occult practices. Believers are urged to test all teachings against Scripture and hold fast to the unchanging truth of Jesus Christ. Ultimately, the message calls for vigilance against Satan's deceptive counterfeits and a commitment to biblical purity in an increasingly syncretistic world.

  • Biblical Authority
This sermon establishes biblical authority as the foundational distinctive of Baptist faith and practice, asserting that Scripture alone serves as the final and infallible guide for doctrine and church polity. The speaker argues against relative truth and extra-biblical traditions by highlighting the historical reliability, textual evidence, and transformative power of the Bible. Emphasizing the need to know the 'why' behind beliefs, the message encourages believers to personally study and verify teachings against God's Word, following the example of the Bereans. The presentation concludes by demonstrating that Satan attacks Scripture while Jesus defeats temptation through it, reinforcing the necessity of holding fast to divine authority.

  • Destined for Affliction
This sermon examines Paul's emotional struggle and the reality of suffering for the sake of the gospel in 1 Thessalonians. The preacher highlights how Satan actively hinders the spread of the message, causing distress and affliction for both the apostle and new believers. By analyzing Paul's fear and eventual comfort upon hearing of the Thessalonians' faith, the text underscores that persecution is an expected part of Christian discipleship. The speaker challenges modern Christians to recognize their own reluctance to face social friction when sharing the truth. Believers must trust the Holy Spirit's power in conviction rather than avoiding difficult conversations about Christ.
