On this episode of Rel Dowdell discusses his new film "Where's Daddy?" coming out February 6th. The film title "Where's Daddy?" points to the urban blight caused by fatherlessness. Rel exposes the injustice found in the family courts. The film shows the devastation, discusses causation and offers solutions.

Norm Weistuch Ph.D. joins Saving Fatherhood to discuss the problem that is the family court system including CPS (Child Protective Services) and the failure in modern social services caused by FDR's Great Society. Matt Riccardi has distinguished himself as a unique candidate in the race for NJ's Governor. He is the only pro life candidate in NJ. It seems unbelievable that at least one of the two "big" parties wouldn't have a pro life candidate but as Matt explains it goes much deeper than that. Matt explains how he's really the only candidate that cares about the Constitution. Saving Fatherhood is a big fan of the Constitution and we need all politicians to start following it. We would especially appreciate if the Constitution was followed when it came to family law. And that would mean eliminating the family court system that is splitting families apart daily.

I've labeled this episode in the "Due Process" category. 50/50 Parenting is really about making sure that the rights of the child are protected. We could have put it into another category but this is really where it belongs.

All children have a right to equal access to the parents God gave them.  The question then becomes when is is appropriate for the Government to step in?  I believe our Constitution would make that a very high bar.  Assemblyman Erik Peterson comes on the show tonight to discuss his bill.  This is a bill that would again make that a very high bar.  While it is still early in the process we are praying for this to be a win for the children of divorced parents in New Jersey.

My name is Patrick Pursley. I was wrongly convicted of a crime I didn't do and had my life-long judicial sentence overturned in April after doing 23 years. While in prison, I wrote an article that set a legal precedent and became a law and my case is currently receiving national media attention, including a Washington Post article written by Ivan Moreno, dated August 8th and 9th, 2017. This story was ran in various media outlets from coast to coast by The New York Times, Washington Post, Rock Register Star, and other print media sources. Since my release, I am presently out on bond in Rockford, Illinois.

I am currently launching: Iamkidculture.org, which is being built as a 501(c3) as a not-for profit organization. While in prison. I attended college-level classes and have received letters of support from college professors who have written to my judge on my behalf. These colleges include De Paul University, Northwestern University, Loyola University and Northeastern University. The alternative curriculum I developed for at-risk urban youth has been used in some Chicago high schools, middle schools, at-youth risk programs, and gang-peace circles. This alternative curriculum which I have developed and am currently launching is intended to bring young people to understand the value of their own lives, and understand the importance of taking the right path in life which impact their trajectories. Iamkidculture.org is launching the website and my first book, which is available both on the iamkidculture.org website and is also on amazon.com titled, "Adventures of Kid Culture and The World Explorers: In the Queen's Chamber", which is the urban version of Harry Potter.

We are giving away $2,017.00 in back to school packages or in the form of grants to at-risk youth that are enrolled in school for every 2017 copy of the book sold in print or as an e-book format. We are also launching a contest giving away needed shoes to at-risk students.

Our curriculum consists of Iamkidculture mini-lessons, topical newsletters, good law practice, social and restorative justice, ideals, symptoms of PTSD, self-diagnostic tests based on the DSM-5 edition guidelines, and a 12-step workbook for at-risk urban youth and gang members and we are currently doing a talent-search for positive and motivated artists nation-wide to package their talent and put them in the iamkidculture online.

Several weeks ago I spoke to some folks about motherhood on Mother’s day and we got into what makes a great marriage.

4. That feeling can come back. Large parts of our society are having problems because they are ruled by feelings.

b. Depressed? Have a pill – instead of dealing with your feelings we introduce you to the culture of drugs

c. Bipolar? Mood swings –

d. Narcissist – selfishness

e. These are all sin issues.

5. The best title for a marriage book ever is Dave Harvey’s – When Sinners say I do. It’s a very good book. I think my favorite is Timothy Keller’s Marriage book but that’s mostly because I listen to his podcast a lot. Anyway – The Title is so good because it eliminates the false assumption that you’ve married the perfect person. You’ve married another person that struggles with sin just like you do.

6. I went to lots of marriage counseling and seminars and for the longest time I struggled with trying to fix me. I always wanted to fix my wife but that’s impossible. WE have to fix ourselves, humble ourselves. A lot of times we don’t want to deal with that.

7. I do have to say I keep meeting incredibly mature Christians in this Family Court Reform movement and I think a lot of them have been matured by the experience of family strife.

8. They have been matured by the refiner’s fire.

Talking to my buddy Jay the weekend about Jesus. Every stupid thing we do in this country is because we try to figure things out while we leave out the most important variable there is. Our creator. Seriously – Why do we have so many problems? Did you ever do algebra? If you want to figure out a + b = c its easy if you know two of the three variables. If you only know one its impossible. You can guess and you’ll come out correct, sometimes.

Anjelica was like a super hero.  She had special powers.  So smart and so athletic.  I really loved our time together.  She had a very trusting nature about her.  I remember when she was little, I would put her on top of the car and tell her to jump to me.

Q.  As a parental alienation survival coach I would really like for you to define parental alienation or pathogenic parenting for the audience assuming I know nothing about this.

A. PA is a slang term for a severe form of psychological abuse by an unhealthy parent that makes a child reject, hate, and fear a good, loving, emotionally available parent and entire side of the family.

 Q. How common is PA?  Why don’t we hear more about it?

A. Family court attorneys tell me that it's present in varying degrees in most divorces with children. Parents are mostly adversarial in midst of divorce and some parents cannot stop themselves from triangulated the children into the adult conflict, coercing and demanding them to choose a side, while the other parent is saying things like "it's ok mommy and daddy are still a team and we both love you and want all good things for you". But triangulating a child into the adult conflict is not simply "badmouthing another parent" as many flippantly will say, it's often one of the first acts of psychological child abuse. Often it was already present in the marriage as it does occur in intact families. We most often see it expressed as a custody battle. Experts like Dr. Childress will tell you ITS NOT ABOUT CUSTODY. It's about abusing a child to hate another parent and entire side of family and toss them aside like trash, as the sick parent has done. I say sick parent because normal parents don't do this to a child.

Triangulating a child into parental conflict is abusive and leads to enmeshment, both are unhealthy and dangerous forms of boundary violation and are done without conscience. The child is drawn into a cross generational coalition against you; and are examples adultifying a child to validate their adult battle instead of being a parent who validate the needs and wants of the child.

So. It's very, very common in most divorces due to anything from immaturity and hurt feelings of parents that they eventually get over, to sever pathology where the parent just cannot stop themselves from making the child hate the other entire side of family and forcing them to love only them. The cases that escalate to this level of severity do not have a good prognosis.

You also asked why we don't hear more? Because of the severity of this abuse people don't like to hear about it. Their natural defense mechanism is to re-butt or rebuke a heartbroken parent and scold them that they either did something to contribute to it; or they could end it by sending their child more cards and letters of love. This is s defense mechanism to assimilate something so eerily unnatural they cannot stand hearing it and realizing it could happen to anyone including them.

 

Q.      PA is one of the biggest issues in the family court reform movement.  Where do you see positive change coming and where do you think more work needs to be done.

A. Change cones thru education and standardization in mental health diagnosis and treatment recommendations. I don't know if it's possible to stop a sick parent from attempting to abuse their child's mind, but I believe education can help therapists, lawyers, judges, and everyone who works with children and famili...

Saving Fatherhood – My first job is to convince you there is a problem. The American Family is under attack.

THE state of FATHERHOOD TODAY

Before we talk about what’s causing Fatherlessness – I want to share some statistics about Fatherlessness and what it is doing to our families.

A. FATHERLESSNESS Check out the statistics on savingfatherhood.org

a. 43% of US children live without their father

b. 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes (US Dept. Of Health/Census) – 5 times the average.

c. 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes – 32 times the average.

d. 85% of all children who show behavior disorders come from fatherless homes – 20 times the average. (Center for Disease Control)

e. 80% of rapists with anger problems come from fatherless homes –14 times the average. (Justice & Behavior, Vol 14, p. 403-26)

f. 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes – 9 times the average. (National Principals Association Report)

g. Compared to living with both parents, living in a single-parent home doubles the risk that a child will suffer physical, emotional, or educational neglect.

B. What about the Father’s themselves that have lost their children?

a. Are they all deadbeat Dads that don’t want to see their children?

b. Men between the ages of 25 and 54 account for 44% of all suicides. We can’t tie this directly to divorce or loss of parental rights but I’ve heard lots of talk about the prevalence of suicide amongst Moms and Dads who lose their kids.

c. On april 22nd the New York times reported that the overall suicide rate rose by 24 percent from 1999 to 2014. The suicide rate rose for middle aged women (ages 45 to 64) by 63 percent. For middle aged men – age 45 to 64 it rose 43%.

d. If my identity wasn’t in Christ I could easily be one of those statistics.

Godlessness is at the core of all wickedness that is destroying the idea of family in our culture. Family was God's idea. God made us in his image and to help us understand his love for us he uses our earthly understanding of a Father.
