The alt right and MAGA GOP are dead set on the teaching of the truth.  Yes, we have a great nation, but it is made up of humans.  Humans are not perfect and we far too often do bad things.  Slavery and its aftermath is one those REALLY bad things this nation/civilization has done.  We still are reaping the results of our action or often our inactions.  To move forward, we must acknowledge the intertwining of our history and slavery.  Remember, slavery existed for a longer time from colonial settlements to after the Civil War, more than 200 years; we have only been away from the inhumanity of these actions for less than 160 years.
