Scatterbrain Podcast

We are doing a teaser-trailer series to promote the best past Scatterbrain Podcast episodes. Listen to the trailers, find the ones that peak your interest, and go back to the past and give it a listen! There are a lot of really good episodes that may have become buried in mix. So...

It all started here, folks! Not one of our favorite episodes, but we had to begin at the beginning. We bring you Archive No. 1: Episode 1. Enjoy!

Always.

Happy to be back. Did you get some good sleep? We hope so, because you'll need it for Episode 164.

Tim from Paroxysmal returns to the show to talk extreme metal, his band, the new upcoming album, "Force Feeder" ( to be released June 30th, 2023 ), and the recent UAP whistleblower's ( not so ) shocking revelations. We also go topical and talk a little bit about the recent Titan disaster. Is it really a tragedy when you are just stupid? We're sorry to be so blunt, but... STUPID!

Thanks for listening, scatterbrains! YOU are the backbone of this podcast!

The death of Dennis Mallen right after our interview with him earlier this month really messed with Ian's head in particular, so we implore you ALL to be safe out there!

Feeling down and depressed? ASMR apparently works for a lot of people. So, hit play and let this roll while you sleep, and see if the positive message sinks in and you wake up feeling AWESOME! Let us know if it works.

Always.

Our hearts are broken to just learn of the tragic passing of Dennis W. Mallen, Jr. in a car accident on June 10th, 2023, only six days after this interview was recorded. He was such a kind and decent man, and we lost our new friend before we really got to know him. He was in such a good place in his life, and you can really hear it in his voice. It makes this interview all the more heartbreaking. But please listen - In honor of his life and out of respect for his memory. Our hearts go out to his family and his many friends. R.I.P. Dennis.

We are leaving everything as it should have been...

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 163.

Actor/Producer Dennis Mallen is a busy man. He first appeared in "Devil's Advocate" ( 1997 ), and has continued to remain in demand with roles in a wide array of commercials, shorts, and feature films ever since. Most recently with starring roles in "The Mad Hatter" ( 2021 ), "Gray People" ( 2022 ), "Tales From The Old West" ( 2023 ), "Mass State Lottery" ( 2023 ), and "Losing To Win" ( 2023 ).

2021 Winner Best Actor: Gold Award for "Killer Miller", and 2022 Winner Best Actor: November and December Award for "Dahlia". Mr. Mallen has chops!

But, more importantly he is a genuinely nice man and an interviewer's dream! Gregarious, outgoing, charming, intelligent, and very talented. It's no mystery why he is so sought after within the entertainment industry.

We wish him nothing but the best, and we will be keeping track of his movies and ever-rising star. And you should, too!

We feel fortunate ( and a little stunned, to be honest ) that he agreed to be interviewed. We have nothing but gratitude and respect for him allowing us an hour of his time.

This is an engrossing interview, and we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed talking with Mr. Mallen.

Thank you for listening, Scatterbrains! We truly appreciate you all!

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 162!

This week, we are joined by Deb and Kris from Today We Laughed and Learned Podcast for a great discussion on standards of beauty and beauty practices around the world.

From tooth sharpening to foot binding, and everything in between, the lengths people go to in order to look "beautiful" can be quite extreme. What seems odd or crazy to one person might be mainstream and beautiful to another. What is it that motivates people to conform to standards of beauty? Is there a core, common standard of beauty or is the standard unique to each culture, time, and place? Where do these ideas of beauty come from?

Though we may not have found a single, simple answer to this question, we did talk about some very interesting concepts and ideas. With a little help from our friends Deb and Kris, we did "laugh and learn".

When you are done listening to this awesome conversation, check out Deb and Kris' podcast whever you listen to podcasts.

Welcome to our 4th installment of "The Power of Metal Compels You!"

Ian blathered incessantly, as usual, and both he and Dan went on and on about the Death Angel/Kreator/Sepultura concert. What a line-up! And these old-timers proved that the originators still hold the keys to the thrash-truck. Hey. That was good. I need to write that down.

We also review the new EP by Carolina thrashers All Hell, "All Hail the Night".

Now with listeners in 69 countries! No kidding! Thanks for listening, humans.

Bonus Episode No. 5 is here!

It's been almost 1 year since the last bonus episode. And although we do this when one or both of us are off on vacation, it actually is a lot of work to make these bonus "gems". So you will listen to this... and like it!

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 160!

What do Snoop Dog and Paul Simon have in common? What is a "parapet"? How awesome is Mario Kart? These are just a few of the things we talk about this week.

We also review "Time Will Take Us All", the latest release from Entheos and discuss the topic of reincarnation. What, if any, evidence is there for the possibility of reincarnation? Is the idea of reincarnation just a way to make ourselves feel better about the prospect of our own mortality?

Thanks for listening! Please don't forget to like/rate/review and share.

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 159: War Remains.

We just can't contain our love for Enforced. Their new album "War Remains" is out now, and if you love music that is fast, tight, honest, and intelligent, then you will LOVE this album. It should be no mystery how the 'Brains are going to rate this one. Already among the elite active thrash metal bands, this album will satisfy any true fan. Young and old. Purist or casual. Put in a mouthpiece before you blast this album, or you might bite your own tongue off!

Then, Ian gives a layman's briefing on the UK's Challenger 2 tank that is currently being sent to Ukraine in limited numbers. The track record of deadliness and survivability with this tank should have Russia quivering in their collective boots. And when a murderous war-criminal is backed into a corner and tries to launch his nukes, he will get the shock of his life.

Oh, treat and rapture! Listen to the very end for a chuckle with some extremely lame "Dad jokes".

Thanks for listening everyone!

In memory of David Roberts. I'm in shock to learn of your passing yesterday. RIP old friend. You were a strange guy. But much loved and a part of the Mesplay Clan... and Momma's best friend.

Always.

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast's tenth installment of our Banter Series. This episode almost could have been titled, "Pending Peer Review: Part 2". But, being just banter, it's our chance to have even less direction and just talk about whatever we want to. For instance, what does Wyoming and the UAP phenomenon have in common? We don't know either.

This week we also review the new EP from Finnish band Crawlspace titled, " Relapse In Judgement".

Thanks for listening Chuck, Noah, Bob, Heather, Jim, Steve, Marianne, John, Amy, Lazarus, Fred, Cole, Tucker, Ralph, Bart, Jodi, Hank, Sara, Erika, Amie, Kent, Shakal, Mari, Keith, all four Mikes, and everyone else who has supported and stuck with us. We truly appreciate you all!
