Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 47 - The Year-End Review. You're not getting rid of us that easily!

In this episode, we look back at the year 2020 and the start of Scatterbrain Podcast.  We talk about what we've learned since we started and what we'd like to do in the new year. We also talk about the new 10-point rating system and discuss some of our favorite music from this year.

We'd like to thank all who have listened and will listen. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoy creating this podcast. Knowing you are listening makes it all worth it.

Happy New Year! See you in 2021.

This week we welcome Ariel Cooksey from Malice Podcast to discuss the Norwegian Black Metal scene in the 1990's, the church burnings, and the circumstances surrounding the murder of Mayhem's Euronymous.

Despite the serious subject matter, we had a lot of laughs and a great conversation. This was a fun episode to record. If you've never listened, we recommend you check out Malice for an interesting take on the true crime podcast genre.

Stay tuned Scatterbrains. We've got some great things in the works for the coming year!

The end of the year is drawing near. We've got some great things in the works for the rest of 2020 and into 2021. This week we talk about all kind of things: the holidays, Christmas movies, and more.  We get some updates on previous discussions as we reflect on some interesting topics in previous episodes and we review some Irish thrash metal, the December 2020 album “Sea Savage” from Gama Bomb.

Stay tuned Scatterbrains. 2020 has been a shit year, but we've tried to make the best of it. All of the great heavy music from this year sure has helped. Thanks for joining us on the ride!

This week, Ian gives some convoluted explanation about how his math calculations on the Drake Equation (episode 43) were wrong, yet the answer still correct, leaving Dan thoroughly flummoxed. We also review Sodom's latest (16th!) studio album, "Genesis XIX".

Next, we talk about the "Allagash Abductions" of four men that allegedly took place in 1976 in Allagash, Maine. Was this real or was it a hoax? Mixed information, changing stories, and other factors make for some uncertainty.

This week, we review the latest thrash metal album "Palace for the Insane”, by Shrapnel from Norwich, England.

Next, we discuss the Drake Equation and its implications for the possibility of intelligent life within our galaxy and beyond. The numbers and scale of the Milky Way galaxy, by itself, are mind-blowing. What does this tell us about life on Earth and elsewhere in the universe? Are we unique and one out of an infinitesimally small possibility? Or is the galaxy teeming with life, intelligent and otherwise?

This week, we talk with Evan Salvador of Pile of Priests on the 6-month anniversary of the release of the self-titled metal masterpiece "Pile of Priests".  We get a brief history of the band as well as an insider view of the process leading up to the creation of this excellent album.  After this conversation, we get a little insight as to what inspired one of the best metal albums of 2020. Not all is as it seems.

We reviewed "Pile of Priests" back in Episode 37. If you haven't listened to that episode or that album, we highly recommend you listen to those first.

Next, we welcome Ian's brother Kent back to the podcast. We get a brief update on the death-trap motor home we talked about in Episode 9, then things get a little weird as we talk about reincarnation, past lives, precognition, and more. This episode is a little longer than usual, but we get into some interesting conversation.  Though not required, if you haven't listened to Episode 9, we recommend listening to that episode as well. Either way, this conversation with Kent is a good one. Thanks for listening!

Next, we learn about the skill of "remote viewing" and some of the research devoted to learning whether or not this is possible. You might scoff at any type of "psychic" ability, but world governments and elite universities have conducted research into this topic.  What did they find? What do you think?

We continue our homage to the season of witches, ghouls, and begging for free candy in this final Halloween-inspired episode. First, we review the music of a one-man-band from Scotland: Hellripper's "The Affair of the Poisons" (Hellripper.com).

Next, we talk about one of America's most famous, creepy authors: Edgar Allan Poe. We talk about our favorite writings, his depressing life,  and learn about his significant contributions to American literature. Take a listen and learn about this master of the macabre.
