Some years it pops into the top 10 but most years it wins the least liked candy the most popular five candies are Eminem's hot tamales Skittles Sour Patch Kids. And at number one my favorite Reese's, peanut butter cups. There's just something about that. Perfect combination of chocolate and peanut butter that make Halloween special. I love the Reese's cup and I hope you had a great Halloween.

Why is the pumpkin associated with Halloween? Well, as with so many things, it comes from the federal government in the 1920s the Department of Agriculture promoted. The pumpkin around late October to get rid of excess inventory and it's stuck. Now, almost half of our pumpkins come from Illinois where they can grow, 37 000 pumpkin pounds on one acre. By the 1920s, Halloween had become its most mischievous. Putting the toilet paper in your neighbor's trees, and all of those sort of things trick-or-treating started as a way of patrolling the neighborhood to Tamp down the pranksters.

This week we celebrate Halloween, so I thought I would spend a little bit of time and learn some more about the holiday. I was shocked by what I found and I'm going to share some of those things with you this week, for example, did you know that Halloween has a marriage component to it? I'll share that with you, right after this.

According to history.com in the 18th century Halloween had many connections with getting married. In fact, bobbing for apples, was a game to find out who would get married first. The first one to get the Apple was the first one to get married and single ladies would throw apple. Peels over their shoulder hoping to discern the initials of their eventual spouse. I'll share more Halloween, crazy facts tomorrow.

Today, despite all of its benefits Studies have shown that compartmentalization can be taken to far. In fact, your relationship with your wife, does affect your ability to perform your job at work and so we can put them in compartments but we can't totally separate them. Remember your overall health is very important and don't sacrifice it for one box.

Journaling is a great way to keep your compartments separate. If you have issues in one part of your life write them down, get it out on a piece of paper and then close that box move on and by writing it down, it will be so much easier to focus on the new better parts of the day that are coming up.

Cultivate your mindfulness, practice focusing on what you are supposed to be thinking about. And don't let your mind wander, if you are at dinner, focus on the food and how delicious it is not on what the kids did, bad at school. By focusing your mind, you will help create the compartments that will make you happier.

Establish routines and rituals that help make each compartment more distinct. For example, when you come home from work, change your clothes, symbolically you are changing your mind. What you think about by changing your clothes? This routine will help you transition from one compartment to the other compartments. And eventually your mind will be trained not to cross-compartmentalize and keep one area away from the rest.

The Topic of compartmentalization has come up several times during these segments. So I thought it might be worth a deeper dive exactly what is compartmentalization and how can we use it to be happier and more productive? Compartmentalization is a mental structuring tool that may help you to keep one bad situation from invading other parts of your life. It's 100 normal for your emotions from one moment to affect other parts of your life. If you get in a fight at home, it may affect work as well. Being able to separate your thoughts and store them in their own compartments of your mind as a useful tool. I'll give you one tip on how to do this right after this.
