By now, you’ve probably heard of Galentine’s Day…but did you know it was started in 2010 by a show called Parks and Recreation? Much like the catching on of the show’s hit phrase, treat yo self, Galentine’s Day began to rise in popularity every Valentine’s Day Eve thereafter. Leslie Knope said, “[Galentine’s Day is} like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.” Ladies celebrating ladies, female friendships at the forefront. So this year, Schur Tingz shared some creators and businesses we loved every day until Galentine’s Day. Hope you’ve got your hearts ready. 💓💓💓
SURPRISE! Our first ever visual for Schur Tingz, thanks to multitalented videographer, Soundcloud rapper, and style icon Alex! Alex is a longtime friend (like, from birth) and a stellar guest for this podcast. We talk all things growing up Jamaican-American, from church to school to humor and more. If you love some dark humor, laugh when you're sad, and also did some very questionable Black History Month reenactments, this episode is for you.
The Schur Tingz theme song (and I guess the Cheers theme song) has never rung so true. Consider the episode an "I Love You" to all within my immediate community and those I still have yet to meet. This episode is all about ensemble casts, personal relationships, and walking 14 miles to and from school. Have you been missing your friends an exuberant amount? Do you feel like you haven't been the best at keeping in touch? Are you putting off responding to any texts or phone calls as you read this description? Procrastinate with this episode !!! JK, respond to your matters if you have the capacity, but also listen if you're down). <3
Who loves their pet so much it actually makes them want to sob sometimes? I marvel at the fact that we inhabit the Earth with creatures we can't always understand and always find conversations about animals fascinating. This episode will answer a few questions like, "how is it dealing with indoor pets and Jamaicans," "why does a fictional horse hold an honorary degree to Notre Dame," and "do The Office characters have pets?" (news flash Kat...Angela does). Tune into this unedited stream of consciousness on all things animals and their relation to this podcast.
Who skipped the entire first season of Parks and Recreation, is a comedy about death really funny, and who hears voices in their head? Find out in this episode of Schur Tingz as two college friends, Gianna & Katrina, bounce from topic to topic (aka, there is a lot covered in a short amount of time). Stay tuned 'til the end for a TWIST!
Ready to take a trip down memory lane? Join these two longtime family friends, Candace and Katrina, as they discuss growing up in a Caribbean, Pentecostal church, the importance of fan-girling over your besties, and the heart-warming romance sin Parks and Recreation. Tune in to this conversation that stems from 2019 Parks and Rec 10th Anniversary Reunion at PaleyFest (linked).
Had a thought about how some really great shows have some really awkward and uncomfortable Season Ones. Then, I saw a tweet that had the same feel, saying if someone knew you before your 20s, they only knew "Season One" you. So then thought...podcast topic? Podcast topic. Enjoy unedited rambling and a short interview with my Dad that still has me laughing.
Cutting down a two hour conversation means tons of ~bloopers~. Enjoy these unfiltered, chaotic snippets as Michael & I forget the alphabet, remember collegiate struggles, discuss Ryan Howard's progression into a drug addict, and end up on the show "Breaking Bad."
Who is Creed Bratton in my contacts, what is a jackfruit taco, and why was the Diversity Day episode of The Office weirdly validating? All this and more on the first episode of Schur Tingz, feat. two college friends, Michael & Katrina. Tune in to hear the sweetest Dundie ever!
