This week we begin a summer spiritual training camp — a focus on the fundamentals of faith. We ask three key questions:

1) What do you believe?

2) Why do you believe it?

3) Does what you believe really make a difference in your life?

What do I mean by making it real? Its the question of what it means to have an authentic faith. Scripture warns against a superficial faith. It warns against a false faith. So what does real faith look like?

I believe God has called us to be the expression of Him and His love in the earth. I believe He has called us to be a blessing to others.Thats in stark contrast to the predominant attitude today that we have this need to be entertained, comfortable, and care-free, with no responsibility, no duty, no loyalty to others. Its the whats-in-it-for-me crowd versus the selfless, serving, looking out for the interests of others crowd.

Pentecost Sunday commemorates The Day of Pentecost, the pouring out of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Jesus gathered in the upper room following the ascension of Jesus. Peter declares that this is that which was spoken of through the prophet Joel. This is it! This is the fulfillment!

Jesus went to great lengths to prove that it was He who was resurrected and standing before them, that His resurrected body was indeed a body, not a ghost. He ascended into heaven and the ascension is the launching of the Kingdom. It is the launching of the New Covenant and in this New Covenant the Kingdom of God is comprised of men and women, boys and girls, of every nation, tribe, and tongue. It is comprised of believing Jews and believing Gentiles.
