I was really pressed for time the other day, so I recorded a podcast from my car, in lots of traffic. The traffic cop was blowing her whistle at me for no reason, and that really messed me up. But I decided to post the whole recording anyway because it’s what a scrappy business owner would do. So, check it out!
Plus, even though the podcast is an absolute mess, there’s a good takeaway.
Photographer Richard Silver is an old friend of mine from NYC, and he and I got to catch up on the phone today. We had a really cool conversation about his travels and other things, but this particular podcast touches on a his desire to grow his Instagram following. So, if you’re wondering how to grow your Instagram following, there’s a lot of good stuff to learn in this podcast, and the main takeaway is really easy to execute. So, check it out!
And in case you don’t know who Richard Silver is, here are just a few of his amazing photos:
“But that won’t scale…”
“I can do that now, but what happens when we try to scale?”
Blah blah blah…
That’s like when someone says, “I don’t want to lift weights because I don’t wanna get huge muscles.”
Do you know how hard it is to accidentally get huge muscles?
VERY.
Do you know how weird it would be if you got huge muscles before you realized you were getting huge muscles?
SO WEIRD.
Same with running and building a business.
Chances are your business isn’t going to accidentally blow up so fast that you won’t be at all prepared for it.
And chances are if it is growing, you’ll notice and make adjustments to the things that, here we go, might not scale very well.
But in the meantime, do the things that don’t scale, because for the time being, while you’re small, you have an amazing opportunity to service your clients better than your larger already-scaled competitors.
Then, once you do blow up, if you can crack the code and figure out how to scale the things you once thought weren’t scalable, then you’ll have a truly special business.
Have you ever visited a website, then got on Facebook and saw an ad for that website? Freaky, right? It’s actually really easy to do, and super powerful, especially for small businesses. That’s what I talk about in this episode of Scrappy Wins.

It’s true… And I notice it with certain types of clients… They want to plan everything wayyyyyy in advance. They want detailed, meticulously designed plans that cover every base, cross every “t,” dot every “i, etc… The result? Months go by and everyone is left wondering why nothing is happening… #fail
