On the podcast this week Screen Verdict reviews the film Killing Them Softly. To start Matt and Jonathan share some unexpected advice they received from a cinema employee on their way into the film. Next Jonathan reveals high hopes for the film from Andrew Dominik, director of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

This week Screen Verdict heads back to the prohibition era to review the adventures of the Bondurant brothers in the film Lawless. After struggling to decide on what town the film is set in, Matt and Jonathan introduce the premise and the major players involved in the film.

Next they review some of the main acting roles including Tom Hardy, Shia LeBeouf, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain and Gary Oldman. Matt and Jonathan are split on their MVP of the film but are equally creeped out by Guy Pearce. Matt also takes issue with a list including Shia LeBeouf on IMDB and offers some fashion advice that Jonathan takes with some skepticism.

The boys also give their thoughts on prohibition, warn listeners of the violence in Lawless and see what relationship advice they can take from the Bondurant boys. In our weekly segment What Has (Lawless) Taught Us, Matt learns something about presents and Jonathan shares a new look on cardigans.

This week Screen Verdict reviews the third season of the water cooler show, Louie. Matt and Jonathan sing their way into the podcast and discuss the unique style to Louie, the tone of the show and Louis C.K. as a character.

Matt reveals why he finds Louie's life to be a scary prospect and Jonathan makes some comparisons between Louie and Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm. This week Screen Verdict reviews the new time travelling action film Looper. Matt and Jonathan discuss director Rian Johnson's first two films as well as his work on the show Breaking Bad. They then go over the premise of the film and compare Looper's handling of time travel to other classics such as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Back to the Future. They also wonder whether they themselves would like to be a looper.

Screen Verdict returns to the internet after a brief delay and the podcast begins by addressing the Facebook rumours of Matt's death. Matt assures us he has a clean bill of health and has just been chilling with Morgan Freeman, though does express concern over the lack of community reaction to his passing. The boys also discuss some causes for the delay including Jonathan's inconvenient graduation and Matt's fight for and/or against poverty.

They then discuss their thoughts on Wes Anderson as a writer/director and specifically what to expect from Moonrise Kingdom. They discuss whether the runaway lovers had a good escape plan and struggle to pinpoint acceptable terms for describing a 13 year old girl. (Hint: 'developed' is not okay).

They move on to the celebrity actors and declare a surprise MVP of the adult cast. This podcast also features a surprisingly educational edition of the segment What Has (Moonrise Kingdom) Taught Us. Lastly they provide a Screen Verdict rating for the film, with some unexpected results.

Screen Verdict returns to TV drama as this week Matt and Jonathan discuss Aaron Sorkin's new show on HBO, The Newsroom. After sharing their thoughts on Sorkin (Hint: Matt's favourite show is The West Wing) they go over the premise and the major players in The Newsroom.

After discussing some of the characters as 'the Jay Leno of news' and 'a lock for next year's Emmys' the boys share their interest in the news stories, politics and personal relationships explored in the show. At the end of the spoiler free segment they provide their Screen Verdict rating for the season.

In the spoiler half of the podcast Matt and Jonathan go into further detail on the plot developments of the season including who they want to end up with whom, their take on the political debate and what their hopes and expectations are for season two.

In our second annual look at the VMAs, Screen Verdict compares reigning title holder Katy Perry to contenders Rihanna, Drake, Gotye and M.I.A. After announcing the nominees Matt and Jonathan take a look at potential snubs that aren't really snubs in One Direction and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Moving on to the actual nominees the boys review why Katy Perry should have known better than to eat a lone strawberry, wonder who's shooting arrows at bulls (presumably Katnis), pick sides between Gotye and Kimbra, discover how many cigarettes someone can fit in their mouth and compare M.I.A. to Fred Flinstone.

After combining our scores we decide which is our favourite and cast our vote for best music video of the year. Lastly we receive a call from podcast guest Dutchy who shares how his sister Ruth Roubelle was also snubbed by the awards.

This week on the podcast Matt and Jonathan open by trying to confirm exactly how many Bourne films there are. They then discuss Matt Damon being replaced (not as Jason Bourne) by Jeremy Renner and which of the two they prefer.
