On Maundy Thursday Jesus strips down and washes His disciples’ feet, echoing Mary of Bethany who washed His with her tears and hair. The true head is the servant: He who emptied Himself becomes exalted, and the hierarchy of the Cross reconciles all things so that head and feet, heaven and earth, are one in His body. Unless He washes us, we have no part in Him—so we wash one another’s feet, giving greater honor to what the world calls weak, for all are members of His body.

Jesus’ triumphal entry fulfills Zechariah’s Day of the Lord: His feet touch the Mount of Olives, He rides into Jerusalem on a donkey, and the wise hail Him with palms as the Tabernacle of God. The Great Judgment is the Cross—where He is lifted up and draws all people to Himself—not a future apocalypse of fear. To wave palms today is to reject worldly dread and hail Divine Wisdom, the Image of God who cleanses the world by atonement and calls us to reveal His manifold grace.

Jesus wept—at Lazarus’ tomb, over Jerusalem, in Gethsemane. His tears were not a failure of peace but the way His prayers reached heaven, the godly sorrow that seeks the Father’s will and opens the way of eternal life. Worldly sorrow clings to what fades; godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation. We don’t transcend tears—we share them, weep with those who weep, and find in them the power that raises the dead.

Once we were darkness, but now in the Lord we are light. In this valley of the shadow, Christ shines through His words, calling us to live as children of light and expose unfruitful works not by shaming, but by becoming light ourselves. Grace, not condemnation, is the new way: His blood was shed for all, so we hold nothing against anyone. Sleeper, awake—Christ will shine on you.

Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well and offers living water—the Spirit that becomes a spring of eternal life—refusing to enter the old debates over where to worship. Christ is the Rock struck for the thirsty, opening the Father’s free fountain of grace for all. We can argue ideas deep into the night, or we can give the gift of God Himself: love. One Spirit, one body—come and drink freely.

The Kingdom of God is the nation promised to Abraham—real, present in Christ, and belonging to those born of water and Spirit. No one sees it by bloodline or the Law of Moses; it comes only by faith in the One lifted up on the Cross, where God reveals not condemnation but salvation for the world. Through the Spirit who gives life to the dead, we are born from above, abide in His love, and at last see the Kingdom.

Jesus called the fishermen out of the sea—the primordial deep of darkness and death—and made them fishers of men, lights that draw others from the shadow. The Word is the net, the Light that shines in the darkness and cannot be overcome; Christ is all and in all, so the Church cannot truly be divided by factions. Since the sea is no more and darkness is swallowed by His luminous life, we proclaim the Good News of reconciliation, turning hearts from blindness to the hope of His inheritance.

The Spirit and the Bride say “Come!” This Sunday’s readings reveal Christ among us—the Lamb of God drawing all people through the Cross, the spiritual gifts shining “Christ in you, the hope of glory,” and Jesus’ simple invitation to Andrew and Simon: “Come and see.” We answer by abiding in His love, letting our little lights shine, and receiving the new name He gives us in the Spirit.
