Bringing it home - Become The Hero of the Bedroom

    Transcript:

[00:00] Welcome to another episode of the recharge podcast. This is segment nine of the bedroom hero behind the bedroom door and I just want to kind of wrap things up here in a summary fashion and just share some information with you. So I want to start with a quote that I heard from a a entrepreneur, a billionaire, and it basically discussed excuses, excuses, mindset used by those who are focused on themselves and their inability to solve the problem. It has nothing to do with reality and doesn't approve anything and I think that's applicable for a variety of reasons. In the context of what we're talking about in this series of bedroom hero and that a one size solution isn't for everybody. I see a lot of men that are frustrated that they've tried things before it hasn't worked and it's they're told that it's impossible, that their problem is not solvable. [00:50] That they're just going to have to deal with this and learn to cope with it. And I think that really sort of A. I'm trying to figure out a way to say this nicely, but it doesn't do a service to the person they're suffering with an issue they want to solve a problem and not looking beyond or exploring things that maybe are novel or on the cusp or cutting edge or fringe. Just find a solution. Uh, there are plenty of people out there that are doing amazing things and pushing science forward. So just keep looking. So in this past few segments here, we talked about, uh, you know, the issues behind the bedroom door, the statistics on how sexual dysfunction affects not only men, but also women to equal, if not greater, percent. Also shared a exercise, tips on high intensity interval sprinting and lifting weights in terms of testosterone. [01:39] And the subsequent section talked a little bit about some nutritional things that are cofactors for hormone production and particularly for the purposes of this men's health focused segment, testosterone production. A shared a little bit about some of the herbs and some of the things that are a little bit more fringe from anecdotal and some science behind it as well. Obviously, do your own diligence. This is an educational podcast. I'm not telling anybody listening to this to take a particular substance, something that needs to be coordinated and measured and discussed with somebody who knows your unique physiology, medical history and medications. Next moved on to some biohacking things involving red light and cryotherapy. Fascinating, fascinating science. If you're not familiar with Wim Hof, the iceman, just google him. He's got several world records and what he's been able to demonstrate with cold therapy and physiology is truly mind boggling. [02:32] I also shared some data on sound wave therapy, whether it's for erectile dysfunction or Peroni's disease and how that works and can really improve and change a life for a number of people, and then I combine that with some prp and stem cell discussion and some novel therapeutics that are being used to treat more refractory cases of ed or to deal with people who now don't necessarily want to take a pill. I think the tendency in in the US at least is to prescribe a pill and if that doesn't work or if it's a side effect and you prescribe another pill to take care of the side effect of the first one and on it goes and it's not really a viable solution. The concept of precision medicine or Omix is this. You are n of one and if you look at a standard bell curve distribution, people lie on the ends of either spectrum in those are actually cutoff, avoided, ignored, however you want to view it in the mean. [03:33] The middle point is what's focused on and so a lot of people fall outside of the boundaries and so what is often deemed as a standard therapy or quote normal doesn't take in account a whole host of people that are either below or above for a variety of reasons. Whether that's genetics, hormones, lifestyle, and to try to use the common standard approach for those people. Oftentimes is met with disappointment or worst case scenario disaster, but most often frustration. And so really having a precision approach to each person. Their unique problem. Whether it involves some genetic testing, obviously hormonal testing is vital for what the point of this segment and these previous eight sessions were about in. So it's really finding somebody who wants to partner with you to find a precise answer for your unique situation. So I hope you found this helpful. As always, let me know if you have any questions and please, please no more gas station, Madison no more horny goat weed or I can't even think of the names of all the things that I've seen in the last week because I've been specifically looking at them and chuckling at them and a feeling a little bit remiss that people are actually spending and wasting their money on these things. [04:41] So as always, have a fantastic week. Be Safe, be well, and I'll talk to you soon.

Bedroom Hero Part 8 of 9

    Machine Generated Transcript:

[00:00] Welcome, welcome to another episode of the recharge podcast. This is the bedroom hero segment eight. I believe in what I want to talk about in this segment are mistakes, common mistakes that I see on a daily basis in my men's health practice and coaching a Rome. And so let's just jump into these here. The first is self abuse. And this, uh, you know, probably is what you think it is, but also something else. I have a lot of men who are addicted to endurance sports and uh, myself, I love that realm, but it has some consequences. The chronic endurance chronic cardio actually creates some inflammation in the body, increases cortisol level, adrenal fatigue, disrupts hormones and can cause a whole host of problems. And so while it may be addicting, fun, rewarding, maybe a lifestyle, just keep in mind that when things aren't going as well behind the bedroom door, take a look at what's going on inside the gym or out on the trail or on the bike that'll give you some idea about things. [00:58] Um, drugs. There are a whole host of drugs and have sexual side effects in a prescription. Drugs will also elicit drugs. I see a fair number of people that are, uh, maybe addicted to a substance and they're not sure why things aren't working as well as they had in the past. And really you need to take a long, hard look at what is going on in terms of habits, lifestyle and choices. It's all about choice. I've alluded to this in a couple of the other segments and that's what I call a gas station pharmacy. Really, we do not know what's in most of these things. We don't know how they work if they're even the substance that they say they are, so they're fancily package. They look cool. The colors are bright, the promises are bold. These things are produced in a variety of ways that are not regulated by the government. [01:47] Just to keep that in mind that it might say it's something doesn't have to mean that that's what's in there. It can be adulterated, full of toxins or worst case could be full of some harmful chemicals. Occasionally contained some active drugs such as sildenafil or Tadalafil, which can be dangerous for people depending on what their underlying medical situation is, so without a skilled provider in the loop, in a reputable, verifiable product, all bets are off. Plastics are another huge thing. A thalates are endocrine disruptors. You know every time you're sipping out of a plastic jug plastic bottle, think about this, you travel, you get some water, maybe get a 12 pack or a 24 pack of water, throw it in the trunk, backseat and it sits in the sun and those toxic chemicals leach into the water and drink that stuff and it disrupts your hormones. [02:35] I'm also the fluid, the fluid, the food. Unfortunately the standard American diet is just that. It's just sad and it's packed full of things that will inflame the body, caloric excess weight gain, all the things that can disrupt not only sexual function, erectile dysfunction, but also health in general, so I'm not going to Belabor the point. I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about and this isn't just a male issue. The statistics for females or are pretty similar. Maybe even a little higher, whether it's a female sexual arousal disorder or the problems with hormonal loss with aging or surgical hysterectomy where the ovaries are removed and the hormones are absent and as estrogen levels and other things become dysregulated that the vagina actually can atrophy and dry up and shrivel up like a raisin. And so makes penetration, sexual activity obviously very painful and uncomfortable and at times even impossible, but there is help. [03:29] There are specific treatments, whether that's bioidentical hormones, whether it's the topical regimen or laser rejuvenation of the vagina. There a variety of things out there. There are plenty of people that are interested in this area that are skilled at it and are changing and transforming a relationships and lives both for men and women. So, uh, those are just a few of the common mistakes that I see there. There are others as well, but, uh, let me know if you have any questions as I always talk to your provider. Look for the cars, get beyond the standard and have a fantastic week. I will be wrapping this up here shortly.

    Bedroom Hero Part 7

    Transcript:

[00:01] Welcome to another episode of the recharge podcast. This is episode seven of the bedroom hero and I want to talk a little bit about a combination approach and also another condition that you may or may not be familiar with. And so the, uh, condition I'm talking about is called Peyronie's and it's manifested as a curvature in the penis and it can be very painful enough so that it precludes sexual activity or it can be so severe that a penetration is just not possible. It's more common than you might know. I see a fair number of men with this on a regular basis and many have resigned themselves to just dealing with it, uh, to not being able to have sexual activity or maybe they try to treatment that didn't really work, whether it was a topical therapy or an injection and didn't really get the results that they were looking for. [00:47] And as I alluded to in the previous segment about shockwave therapy using sound waves, this device, these devices have actually been used in Peroni's to help break down some of the scar tissue. And when combined with other therapies, a penis pump, the results can be quite impressive and life changing in terms of sexual health for the man effected by this. So, uh, there are several companies out there that are working on specific protocols. I don't want to mention any names, try to keep this free of relatively commercial bias, but combination of a sound wave therapy with injection use of a penis pump to help with the blood flow, straightening and healing. And the men in these particular series have had some pretty successful results taken mine. The statistics that show that, you know, by the age of 40, about 40 percent of men have some problem by the age of 70. It's 70 percent or more based on some of the euro logic literature. So just take that in heart when you're considering a, you know, researching, looking for somebody who's doing something outside of the box, someone who's willing to go a step or two beyond the commonplace to deliver a result in a solution that's unique and customizable to your unique situation. So I hope you found that helpful as always, take care of you. Well, have a fantastic week.

[00:01] Welcome to another episode of the recharge podcast. This is segment six of behind the bedroom door becoming the bedroom hero. What I want to talk about in this segment is a technology that's actually been around for quite a while. It's been used in medicine and healthcare for a long, long time for a variety of applications, but it's only recently gained light, probably partly due to marketing efforts and promotional efforts, but also due to need and what I'm talking about is sound wave therapy. There are several companies out there that manufacture these devices. If you're familiar with lithotripsy, it's actually a technique where sound waves are directed into the kidneys to break up kidney stones. It's done under general anesthesia because of the pain, but it's in a very effective way to help rid the body of stones in the realm of behind the bedroom door. [00:49] It deals with erectile dysfunction and the rationale behind it, as it was explained to me by several physicians who are experts in this realm, is that it breaks up scar tissue, stimulates new blood vessel growth in, can improve blood flow, and so the treatments are painless and take about 20 minutes and then directed not only to the penis itself, but also at the base of the penis and just right in that region with the realization that blood flow, obviously he comes from higher up and depending on the mechanism, whether it's pelvic trauma, surgery, radiation, or something else. This device has shown promise in improving blood flow, which is the key heart of the matter in terms of erectile dysfunction. So there's a variety of other adjunctive techniques that I'll share here in just a moment that are used in combination with this device in that, and those include prp and stem cells. [01:42] So prp stands for platelet rich plasma and this has got its start, I believe in. You know, mostly in the joint space. There was an older technique called prolotherapy, but the reason is that platelets, the little sticky things in our blood are just packed with growth factors and by injecting these in a variety of tissues, whether it's joined the penis called the p shot or on the female, the Oshot can actually cause some improved physiologic responses, and so what what skilled providers are doing now is they're combining the shockwave therapy with either prp injections or stem cell injections and generating in demonstrating some pretty impressive results for people with a, with a relatively refractory erectile dysfunction, so it's a way to improve what the body does naturally without necessarily relying on a drug such as a Sildenafil, Tadalafil, et Cetera, et Cetera. There are a variety of other similar acting drugs out there, so some people want something that's more lasting or long term and this has the potential application for that. [02:43] Not every patient is right for this therapy. You're going to want to see somebody who knows what they're doing and has experienced in this realm. The final point I wanted to bring up and bring out is that a prp. Well, two things actually, prp and stem cells are different. PRP is platelets. Stem cells are actually derive from your fat and it's a different technique of extraction and reinsertion, so keep that in mind. They're completely separate and different, but they both can be used in the realm of erectile dysfunction. PRP is a math problem. You need a provider that really knows what they're doing in terms of the math and what I'm getting at is that there is a minimal quantity of platelets that are really necessary to generate an improved result in, so just taking a little bit of platelets and injecting them into the tissue, whether it's the base of the penis, I'm a joint, et cetera. [03:36] If it's not a high enough concentration and the result is going to be less robust or even nonexistent, so it's not a cheap procedure, and so I really encourage you to question the provider that you're seeing about the technique, the technology, that protocol, the results they've gotten in the past to make sure that you are getting the best use of your money. So that wraps up this segment. In the next section, I'm going to be talking about some common mistakes. I alluded to this a little bit in the earlier section, but I want to just to expand on this a little bit here and then we'll be in the home stretch where I will, uh, bring things together and start wrapping things up for you.

Part 5 of the Bedroom Hero Series

    Transcript:

[00:01] Welcome back to the recharge podcast. This is segment five on biohacking behind the bedroom door. I want to share a few things that I picked up from a functional medicine really redefining medicine conference. A really fascinating on some of the technology that people are using to boost a libido deal with erectile or men's health function. And so some of this is anecdotal. Obviously you want to check it out and do your own due diligence. But I'm fascinated by science and how people are pushing boundaries in frontiers. And so the, um, the first is a electrical muscle stimulation or ems. And so there a variety of products out on the market. They can actually accomplish this there used in recovery. And I experimented with a few of them when I used to compete in triathlon. Uh, some of the brands you might come across would be compacts or new fit, but the way these work is actually stimulate muscles, primarily leg muscles is how they're often used and it actually increases the androgen receptors are testosterone receptors. [00:58] So it does act a lot like exercise, high intensity training or weight training versus just a way to hack your time, particularly if you know you're sitting reading, relaxing, you can actually benefit and use that time wisely. Next is red light therapy. There is some data about red light therapy in terms of maybe improving testosterone function, maybe vascular flow. There's plenty of data from science on infrared in terms of longevity from a heart standpoint. There's some very interesting finished studies that have talked about in other episodes about longevity and decreasing mortality by just sitting in the sauna few times a week. So, uh, the red light actually can stimulate some collagen production and help potentially with some skin aging skin issues. Uh, so there's a variety of devices on the market that you can look for. I like true light. Um, it's a company that's created an own believe by Dave asprey. [01:54] If I'm correct on that, if I'm not, let me know. Moving on to a cold thermogenesis, I've been playing around with this as much as possible, given that I live in a northern climate and six months out of the year. Unfortunately sucks and it's cold, but there's a course by Wim Hoff. He is actually the one who sort of pioneered some of these cold techniques and did some interesting studies that were validated by science where he can actually control his autonomic nervous system through cold exposure in breath techniques and so cold thermogenesis is designed to increase growth hormone, which a lot of people interested in the fitness and bodybuilding space would be keen to know boost testosterone and can actually increase growth of new blood vessels or vascularization as it's called. I have on the list for Santa next year, chilly pad, so somewhat of an expensive device, but circulates a underneath the mattress and can allow you to sleep much cooler, much cooler. [02:53] And I'm just curious when I start playing around with that device, what sort of effects I'll have. I know there's plenty of, of people out there who are well known on the social media circuit who endorse this product. And um, I've heard about it before. I just haven't pulled the trigger on buying it yet. I'm moving onto a roasted nuts and the dangers of emf. All our devices that were attached to connect the two in love with obsessed with emit electrical radiation. I shared an episode on in my men's health course talking about roasted nuts and how potentially carrying your device in your front pocket can have some effects. There's plenty of data out there on power line, transmission, cell phone use, concerns about brain cancers. I'm not saying that it's all been validated through your own diligence and research and see what you think, but it seems to make intuitive sense that if you have a device that's emitting radiation next to your testicles, it's probably not the best situation. [03:51] Similarly, females, when your devices in your front pocket, your ovaries aren't that far away and these devices produce a fair amount of electrical energy that can be measured with a cheap device from Amazon. So what I mean just in fact, holding your phone in one hand, away from your body and having somebody measure the electrical impulse coming out the other side of your opposite hand. You'll clearly see the results of what I'm talking about. So there are some ways to counteract this, including grounding and earthing and using some pulse devices to help counteract the effects of, uh, of the, uh, radiation from devices. Uh, so I almost want to wrap this up here and keep it relatively short. I'll be talking next segment about another technology. I can't even call it a biohack because it's been around for 15 years and it's been used in a variety of other applications, but it's really come to light in the men's health, sexual health ed realm. So, as always, let me know if you have questions and I look forward to, uh, talking to you in the next week.

How To Be The Hero of the Bedroom

    Transcript:

[00:00] Welcome to the recharge podcast. This is segment number four of the bedroom hero. What I'm talking about in this segment I call gas station medicine herbal products and a little bit of the fringe and I hope you stick around till the end because there's a message there that you won't want to miss. I want to cover a few supplements here and give you a little bit about the how and the why. So the first is Maka. It's also known as Peruvian Ginseng. It's actually a route and I think it tastes pretty good. It comes in a powdered form. You can find it on Amazon and a variety of other companies and supplement places offer that. And the way it works is it actually increases testosterone receptors so your body can actually benefit from them. They also boosts Libido and uh, there is some reports that Maka can actually counter effect some of the side effects of Ssri Ssri antidepressants, like sertraline, Prozac, Zoloft, things like that that can affect Libido in Makkah is just one of the ways that as reported in the literature to counteract that. [01:01] One of my favorites is cacau or dark chocolate, and I usually buy the 85 to 90 percent forum because I want the benefit of this food. Food is medicine, but I don't want the sugar. I don't like extra added sugar for a variety of reasons and uh, you know, it was hippocrates who stay, who stated that instead of using medicine, why not try to fast for one day or also to use food as medicine? And so I really take that to heart in my own life practice. And for those that I work with on a coaching basis, there's some great recipes of Cacao on the web, including some, some cacao hot cocoa. I particularly like a product a from four sigmatic. You can find the link on my instagram bio, a delicious products. I take it for a variety of reasons. Um, some might want to check that out. [01:46] Gives, gives you an excuse to eat chocolate. The way it works, that actually boosts flavonoids, which increases nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a substance that is how blood vessels dilate and improves blood flow. That's how Viagra and Cialis and medications like that. They actually work on an enzyme that's involved in nitric oxide. Moving onto Tang Tongkat Ali or long jack, the medical scientific name is your Acoma long folio and this increases libido. I have a lot of my clients and patients take this hoping that they'll have better erectile strengthen. There'll be able to perform like there in 19, but the reality is it's primarily a libido booster. You'll want to know what you're taking and um, I'll get to that in just a minute here. A nexus pycnogenol or pine bark extract. It works similarly to dark chocolate cacao by increasing flavonoids and therefore increasing nitric oxide production. I have a lot of my clients or patients take horny goat weed. [02:48] This is what I call gas station medicine. It's actually tribulus is the formal name of it, but it's designed to increase our boost libido and many people take it hoping for a different effect. And I have diabetic people that are using the product and not getting results in wondering why I've got other people on a variety of other prescription medications that don't quite respond the way they think in. Part of the issue is it doesn't actually necessarily do a whole lot in terms of erectile function or dysfunction and knowing what you're taking in, what's in it in how it's supposed to work is a huge problem with a lot of these supplements. They go buy fancy names. The packaging is enticing. Their impulse buys usually at the gas station near the counter or the magazine section. And I get this question almost every day like I'm using this. [03:36] It doesn't work. All it does is gives me a headache. I'm not sure why it's supposed to do x, y, or Z. and you can't trust or believe the packaging on a lot of these things. They're not tested, they're not regulated. They can be tainted, adulterated, full of toxins. Occasionally, they may even actually contain some active ingredient, such as Tadalifil or Sildenafil. Which are the active ingredients in some of the brand name drugs that you are likely familiar with, the issue with this is depending on what medications a person's taking, whether they have any heart problems, whether they have eye problems, uh, there's a variety of contra indication to taking some of these medications. And if they're in these unregulated herbal products that may or may not be producing United States, there's really all bets are off. So I strongly encourage anybody listening to this to avoid the gas station pharmacology. So that wraps up this segment and a next, I'm going to be talking a little bit about some bio hacking techniques in terms of Ed and I look forward to your questions as I always have. Fantastic week. Be well.
