Of all Barack Obama’s disastrous legacies, the Middle East being bequeathed to his successor may be the most problematic. His undermining of Israel, help in toppling friendly governments, empowering of Iran and embrace of Islamic supremacists of the Muslim Brotherhood have inflamed the region. They have also contributed to the mass migration threatening the same in Europe.

As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton was intimately involved in these decisions. Ditto her most influential advisor: Brotherhood-tied Huma Abedin.

Daily Caller’s Richard Pollock reveals just-released Abedin emails showing her contemptuously discouraging ex-President Bill Clinton from addressing the pro-Israel group, AIPAC.

As Huma is universally expected to have a top job in a Hillary Clinton administration, we need to know: What role did she play in the disasters to date – and will her Islamist lineage lead to more, and worse, in the future?

The Obama Justice Department has intervened yet again to help Hillary Clinton win in November. Evidently, it’s not content with protecting the Democratic presidential candidate against prosecution for her compromise of classified information or the corrupt abuse of the office of Secretary of State to enrich her family and its “charitable” foundation.

The Department just prevented the disclosure of documents that would likely have exposed Mrs. Clinton’s role in the disastrous decision to overthrow Muammar Qaddafi and arm his jihadist opponents. As a result, years of politically motivated prosecution of Marc Turi, a man wrongly accused of gun-running to Libya, has come to an abrupt end.

That’s good news for Mr. Turi. It’s bad news for voters who will shortly have to evaluate the fitness of a potential Commander-in-Chief on the basis of spin, rather than her actual record of malfeasance.

Here’s a news flash that ought to feature prominently in tonight’s vice presidential debate:  Vladimir Putin’s Russia has withdrawn from an agreement governing the disposal of plutonium usable in nuclear weapons.  Even more ominous is its stated justification for doing so.

The Kremlin blamed “a fundamental change of the circumstances and the emergence of a threat to strategic stability as a result of unfriendly actions by the United States towards Russia.”  That sure sounds like it’s laying the groundwork for conflict.

Unfortunately, Dr. Mark Schneider, one of America’s preeminent authorities on nuclear threats, has just determined that Putin is also modernizing and expanding his strategic nuclear forces in ways that will likely violate the seriously flawed New START Treaty negotiated by President Obama and his former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

A long-overdue debate about restoring our deterrent must begin tonight.

Last

week, CIA Director John Brennan described Saudi Arabia as “among our best

counterterrorism partners.” To be sure, such fatuousness emanated from someone so

close to the Saudis during his time as the Agency’s top official in their

country that he reportedly converted to Islam. 

Brennan

was moved to defend the Saudi government because Congress had just achieved its

first Obama veto override, clearing the way for 9/11 families to sue the

Kingdom over its role in the most deadly jihadist attack in U.S. history.

Legislators

may revise this law after the election. But Saudi involvement in 9/11 and the

Kingdom’s attempts to destroy the U.S. fracking industry won’t go away.  So, America should finally get the debate it has long needed concerning the double-game

Saudi Arabia has played against us for decades, even as its jihadist agenda

progresses.

The headline in a British tabloid yesterday read, “A HUGE solar storm is heading towards Earth which could leave us without mobile phones, satellite TV and even electricity.” Fortunately for us, the headline was wrong.

Just because we dodged the sun’s bullet this time, however, doesn’t alter the fact that such a space weather forecast is in our future. Roughly every 150 years, the sun unleashes towards earth an extremely intense “geomagnetic disturbance.” The last time was 157 years ago.

So, we are in the zone.

Unless electric and electronic devices are protected against such enormous energy loads, they will likely be destroyed. And, for the most part, ours are not protected – including those essential to the functioning of our electric grid, which is essential for most of our lives.

We have to secure the grid. Now.

Congress has just showed why so many Americans are sick of their politicians and ready to throw the bums out. The Senate and House leadership have agreed to President Obama’s surrender of your Internet to freedom’s enemies.

The deed was done yesterday when Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pushed through the Senate a funding bill without a prohibition on the Internet give-away.  The House is expected to rubber stamp it today. 

Political cover came from something called the Technology CEO Council.  This group of interested parties, whose lobbyists give generously to politicians’ campaigns, blithely assured Congress: “Placing stewardship of these technical but important functions beyond the control of any one government or group of governments will best secure the principles of Internet freedom and de-politicization of technology.”

Shame on the CEOs for disseminating such transnational rubbish – and the Congress for swallowing it.

Will the Internet soon be surrendered to freedom’s enemies?

It comes down to Hillary Clinton. If she agrees with Donald Trump that it shouldn’t happen now, Congress can yet block Barack Obama from giving up America’s control over critical Internet functions.

Senator Mitch McConnell is trying to pass a short-term funding bill before this Saturday’s start of the government’s new fiscal year. But, since Mr. Trump opposes surrendering the Internet, the Senate’s Democrats say they will block any continuing resolution that forbids this act of unilateral disarmament.

If, however, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton says she wants to decide whether this is a wise step, a sufficient number of her party’s senators will surely support her, and not President Obama.

If she declines, however, then Hillary – not just Obama – will be responsible for the serious damage done to our national security and freedoms.

During last night’s debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, the Internet got only passing mention. That’s deeply regrettable since President Obama is poised at week’s end to surrender control of a function essential to the Internet’s future operations and integrity.

Yesterday, I joined nearly eighty prominent national security and cyber professionals in warning the civilian and uniformed leadership of the Pentagon that the military, our critical infrastructure and the American people could be grievously affected if hostile powers are able to “manipulate or compromise” the Internet.

We concluded: “There is, to our knowledge, no compelling reason for exposing the national security to such a risk by transferring our remaining control of the Internet in this way at this time.” To prevent such harm, the Pentagon’s leaders should oppose this misbegotten initiative – and the Congress must act now to block it.

Tonight’s presidential debate is shaping up to be as closely watched as the Superbowl. Let’s hope that’s not because the public expects it just to be another sporting event – say, a bigtime political cage-match.

The truth is we really need the American people to be getting seriously engaged in a decision that will shape the future of our country and likely most of our lives for years to come.

While there will doubtless be some entertaining moments, what’s required is an earnest conversation, one that actually exposes the differences between the two candidates and the resulting choice before us.

Of particular, and indeed, surpassing importance will be their competing views on the determinants of our national security: how to defeat the global jihad, stop illegal and dangerous immigration, deter our adversaries and protect our constitutional republic, its sovereignty and our freedoms.

The disease known in official circles as “willful blindness” about the nature of the threat we are facing from Islamic supremacists is reaching epidemic proportions.

In the wake of last weekend’s attacks, New York City Mayor Bill DiBlasio, President Obama and others have gone to considerable lengths to downplay the jihadist nature of the perpetrators and the ideology animating their violence.

The Wall Street Journal yesterday reported on the difficulty “experts” are having figuring out the Islamists’ motivation. And the U.S. Senate may shortly institutionalize such muddle-headedness by creating an Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security to work with so-called “community partners” on “countering violent extremism.”

Fortunately, Rep. Scott Perry will hold a hearing in the House of Representatives today aimed at assessing the utter failure of this approach and how the willful blindness it epitomizes is putting Americans at needless, and growing, risk.
