  • 181 | Choosing When To Use ADHD Medication
    ENCORE EPISODE:
Diagnosed with ADHD as a child, Sean Wallace knows of life with ADHD medication and life without it. With the prospect of going back to school, at 23, the awareness that he really needs the help motivated him to be re-diagnosed as an adult.
Surprise! On the proper dose, all of the reasons he hated ADHD medication as a child have disappeared.
    SEAN'S AWESOME QUOTE:
"I would clean my house, be good, I never procrastinated, I was nicer. It worked miracles. Come to find out I was just taking way to high of a dosage…”
He wants others to know of his experience in case it sounds like theirs. Sometimes, second chances can bring surprising results.

  • 178 | The ADHD Nerd Gives Away 29 Tips
The ADHD Nerd joins me today to discuss his 29 ADHD Ways to Prepare (and Survive) the Holidays.
Meet Ryan McRae, The ADHD Nerd.
He’s the creator of The ADHD NERD, a blog dedicated to helping people be more productive, successful and happy especially if they have ADHD. He is the author of Ordering the Chaos, a book dedicated to helping people be more productive and getting all of their projects and to-do lists done. He is an Apple fanatic, voracious reader and lover of things pumpkin flavored.
    RYAN'S AWESOME QUOTE:
“I need people to move to acceptance that they can park far away and not hunt for the close parking spot, and book that as exercise.”
Ryan shares how he came to become the ADHD Nerd.
His story is not so unlike many other people who share the story of growing up undiagnosed.
And life post diagnosis has been an eye-opener.
So, he’s taken to writing about his strategies and sharing them on his website, check him out at www.theadhdnerd.

  • 177 | Procrastination and Other ADHD Symptoms
    ENCORE EPISODE
It’s one of my all time favorite episodes I’ve made to date, so I’m replaying it for Thanksgiving because I’m truly thankful for my friends and listeners!
Eric and I talk out the questions on the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) Symptom Checklist.
    Eric’s Awesome Quote:
“What’s the spatula doing behind the couch?”
    ADHD Symptoms
Some folks ask, “Doesn’t everybody have ADHD?”
They don’t realize it may insult some people with ADHD; after all, the answer is obviously no and it belittles the diagnosis, insinuating that ADHD isn’t real.
is it always intended to deny ADHD’s legitimacy? What if the person asking the question believes it’s real because even his own son has it?
What happens when you don’t fit neatly into the box of ADHD or non-ADHD?

  • 175 | Loyal Listeners Meet Their Favorite Guests
Thank you for listening to the See in ADHD podcast. I’m Jennie Friedman and I invite you to join me in celebrating my epic 100th episode!
I wanted this episode to be for you…the people who listen to it, because it’s you, who makes the show possible.
“I’m changing the cultural conversation around ADHD two ears at a time http://apple.co/1RGp5xu Listen how on my podcast http://www.seeinadhd.com.”
After thanking an incredible friend of mine, Tom Nardone, for his support and contribution, you’ll hear from Michael, a truck driver, meet with beauty queen, Brookley. What do they have in common? A love for creative genius and charity!
Another loyal listener is Steve, a graphic artist. Listen, as he meets Andrew, a coach who shares a similar past.
And finally, another Michelle meets her favorite guest, Corey. His explanation of how what “others tell you to focus on is the distraction,” hit home for her, while catapulting him into YouTube notoriety.
So what do truck drivers, beauty queens, graphic artists, coaches and actors have in common?
See in ADHD and find out for yourself. It seems like, the more we talk about the differences we see in ADHD, the more you’ll see how much everyone has in common.

  • 174 | The ADD Couple Discuss ADHD Emotional Complexities
Listen, as The ADD Couple, Brett Thornhill and I, discuss ADHD emotional complexities.
It's not our first time, but it can't be talked about enough.
I'm sharing our episode here so you can hear for yourself how much info we cover on our podcast. We air new episodes twice a week!
I hope you'll enjoy it and subscribe to both podcasts: The ADD Couple and See in ADHD.
    AWESOME QUOTE:
    ADHD Emotional Complexities
Emotional regulation is the lesser researched of the executive functions.
That's because it's difficult to apply scientific method to emotions.
But emotions and emotional management can be really difficult to manage when you have ADHD.
Thankfully, to folks like James Ochoa, we can begin to understand how to help people without medication.

  • 173 | Can Occupational Therapy Help With ADHD?
Can Occupational Therapy help with ADHD? Listen as we find out.
Stephanie Lancaster joins me today from Memphis, Tennessee, to share this resource for children and adults with ADHD.
First of all, Occupational Therapy (OT) can help with sensory processing challenges due to ADHD.
    STEPHANIE'S AWESOME QUOTE:
“It's really some simple strategies and education.”
    Occupational Therapy Help
Most of all, as an Occupational Therapist, Stephanie helps with "main life activities".
For children, that includes learning, interacting with people and learning self-help in addition to social and play skills.
She can also provide a thorough activity analysis from which solutions to an individual's struggles can be devised.
OT's consider environmental modifications and prep techniques that focus on function and self-advocacy.
As a result, it supports the person doing for themselves.
Please be sure and share your thoughts on the show in the comments below.
