  • 163 | How Wonderful is Living Life Aware in ADD Land?
Guess how wonderful it is living life aware in ADD Land? Don’t believe me?
Meet ADHD expert, Justine Ruotolo, on the show today! She’s 23 years in as an ADHD Coach and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
She’s also the host of her own podcast, The Miss ADD Show, available on iTunes, Stitcher, and BlogTalkRadio.
And if coaching and podcasting didn’t keep her busy enough, she also runs two CHADD support groups in the Los Angeles area.
    Justine’s Awesome Quote:
“If you don’t do the work, you won’t get better.”
    Aware in ADD Land
Justine shares with us the story of a time when she was explaining to a couple of students, who seemed pretty down about having ADHD, that it’s actually a gift.
She pointed out how there wouldn’t even be a Hollywood without it because so many artists, musicians, producers, actors and writers have it and are very successful.
In fact, “they should call it ADD Land.”
Listen, as she recounts her and her children’s diagnosis stories and she shares the mindset and resources that helped them learn to advocate for themselves.
You’ll also discover why she credits mindfulness and meditation for making it possible to come off ADHD medication and live life aware.

  • 162 | The Ever-Changing Journey That Is ADHD
It's the FINAL day of ADHD Awareness Month 2016!
It's been a fun journey exploring with all walks of life various aspects and insights into ADHD.
Today, April joins me to discuss her realization that her ADHD education will probably never be complete.
    APRIL'S AWESOME QUOTE:
"Don't stop educating yourself 'cause new information comes out all the time."
She recommends ADDitude Magazine as a wonderful resource and I agree.
Thank you for celebrating the month with us, tomorrow we go back to our regularly scheduled programming.

  • 161 | ADHD & The Sandwich Generation
It's Day 30 of ADHD Awareness Month 2016!
Listen, as ADHD Coach Sherri shares the struggles that come with cleaning, clearing, and closing up parents' homes. And, as in her case, inheriting MANY ceramic cats!
It's been called the "sandwich generation" ... a set of folks who, while in the midst of their child rearing years, also become caretakers of their elderly parents.
    SHERRI'S AWESOME QUOTE:
    "We have LOTS of cats!"
Sherri's been really busy, as she explains, but she's taken a moment out to tell us how ADHD lends itself to being creative and innovative.
ADHD, according to her, is what you make out of it.

It's Day 28 of ADHD Awareness Month 2016!
Wes Gray joins me to discuss his film, Are You ADD?
You see, he was diagnosed with ADHD in his 50's, so he knows what it is to have a life filled with unanswered questioned.
He wants to spare others if he can.
    WES' AWESOME QUOTE:
"There's all these negative things when you're not knowing what you're fighting and once you find that out, at least you're not fighting in the dark anymore."

  • 158 | The Seinfeld Of ADHD
Thanks for joining us on Day 26 of ADHD Awareness Month 2016!
My guest, Liz Lewis, and I talk about the challenges she's facing with feeling a little directionless with her website.
You see, she has hundreds of visitors to her website, A Dose of Healthy Distraction, every day. But she has not yet figured out how to make any money from it.
Making money is not her prime objective, she says...but it would be nice to have the site generate enough money to pay for it's upkeep.
    LIZ' AWESOME QUOTE:
"I'm the Seinfeld of ADHD...(about her website) it's the website about nothing."
Well, we may laugh about that, but the truth is Liz is a warm and giving mom with ADHD. And, as she says, she's been living with it for a long time. She's got valuable insights to share and a deep desire to help others who are just like her.
There's nothing about nothing about that!

  • 156 | The Forgotten Lunch Date - ADHD Awareness Month
Welcome, it's Day 24 of ADHD Awareness Month 2016!
Darla joins me today to share a story, which describes how memory is an issue for those with ADHD.
Not that a forgotten lunch date is a life or death matter, but it can have a negative impact on a relationship over time.
The message received is not the one intended. A recurring theme in the lives of folks with ADHD.
    DARLA'S AWESOME QUOTE:
"Now what I do is assume that I'll forget everything, so I set alarms."
Listen and learn how it's not just about not paying attention.

  • 155 | Exploring ADHD Medication With An Open Mind
It's Day 23 of ADHD Awareness Month 2016!
Matt joins me today to share his experience post diagnosis.
After years of struggling in school he finally went to a doctor who confirmed a diagnosis of ADHD.
He explains that after a period of regret, wondering how life would've been had he known earlier, he began exploring treatment options, including ADHD medication.
    MATT'S AWESOME QUOTE:
"It's not magic and it doesn't do it for you...but it's certainly helpful."
In listening to several podcasts, he was intrigued by See in ADHD because it seemed to cover all kinds of strategies, with no bias for or against any of them.

  • 154 | Finding Open Road For Your ADHD Race Car Brain
Welcome to Day 22 of ADHD Awareness Month 2016!
Today, my guest and I discuss an analogy of the ADHD brain performing much like a super fast and powerful race car.
Dr. Ned Hallowell made famous the analogy of the ADHD brain being like having a Ferrari engine with bicycle brakes.
Listen as Geoff takes a slightly different spin on it.
    GEOFF'S AWESOME QUOTE:
"Find your open road. Times Square, as a race car, doesn't always work."
According to Geoff, the ADHD brain is as a race car in that it's a high calibre, quality brain, it's just often in the garage.
Unlike your standard Corolla that you see puttering about everywhere going 40miles per hour, the race car is designed as a rocket ship car, built to perform fast and strong, but needs an open road.

  • 153 | Black & White Thinking Is Common In ADHD
It's Day 21 of ADHD Awareness Month 2016!
Black & white thinking is a common thing with folks that have ADHD.
It has to do with seeing things as a whole rather than in parts. Things and even situations become all or nothing, always or never, yes or no, wonderful or horrible.
The world of grey, of details, of degrees are not as obvious.
    LARRY'S AWESOME QUOTE:
"If there's a glimmer of hope I can do it. If I feel I can't do it, why waste my time suffering on something, let me do something else."
My guest Larry is a gifted storyteller, so enjoy the show. We touch on immediate gratification as well.
