  • 174 | The ADD Couple Discuss ADHD Emotional Complexities

Listen, as The ADD Couple, Brett Thornhill and I, discuss ADHD emotional complexities.

It's not our first time, but it can't be talked about enough.

I'm sharing our episode here so you can hear for yourself how much info we cover on our podcast. We air new episodes twice a week!

I hope you'll enjoy it and subscribe to both podcasts: The ADD Couple and See in ADHD.

    AWESOME QUOTE:

    ADHD Emotional Complexities

Emotional regulation is the lesser researched of the executive functions.

That's because it's difficult to apply scientific method to emotions.

But emotions and emotional management can be really difficult to manage when you have ADHD.

Thankfully, to folks like James Ochoa, we can begin to understand how to help people without medication.

  • 173 | Can Occupational Therapy Help With ADHD?

Can Occupational Therapy help with ADHD? Listen as we find out.

Stephanie Lancaster joins me today from Memphis, Tennessee, to share this resource for children and adults with ADHD.

First of all, Occupational Therapy (OT) can help with sensory processing challenges due to ADHD.

    STEPHANIE'S AWESOME QUOTE:

“It's really some simple strategies and education.”

    Occupational Therapy Help

Most of all, as an Occupational Therapist, Stephanie helps with "main life activities".

For children, that includes learning, interacting with people and learning self-help in addition to social and play skills.

She can also provide a thorough activity analysis from which solutions to an individual's struggles can be devised.

OT's consider environmental modifications and prep techniques that focus on function and self-advocacy.

As a result, it supports the person doing for themselves.

Please be sure and share your thoughts on the show in the comments below.

  • 172 | Procrastination in ADHD, It's Not Your Fault

Today, I'm sharing an article I wrote about procrastination because being a symptom of ADHD means it's not your fault.

I also share 2 tips, so be sure and listen to episode 172 on iTunes.

Everyone struggles with putting things off every once in a while, but what activates our brains into action is directly impacted by brain chemistry.

Understanding our executive function is key in unlocking the mystery of why someone with ADHD can so easily do some things and delay, delay, delay doing others.

    JENNIE'S AWESOME QUOTE:

“Everyone benefits by dropping the judgement altogether and just focus on how to create some forward movement.”

    Procrastination in ADHD

...when everything is now or not now, deadlines and target dates become abstract ideas that have no tangible meaning.

In fact, people with ADHD live in such a permanent state of present time, they have difficulty constructing a beginning, middle, and end to their activities. This is why you will hear, “I don’t even know where to begin.”

  • 171 | The Joy Of Helping Others Who Also Live With ADHD Everyday

Dr. Joy Prescesky shares with us the joy of helping others who also live with ADHD everyday, just like her.

She left a successful career as a vet to stay at home with her kids, affording her the opportunity to go back to school and become an ADHD coach.

You see, one of the benefits of her job is that she works over the phone from home.

Working as an ADHD and executive function coach in Canada, you can contact her through http://www.adhdinterrupted.com

    JOY'S AWESOME QUOTE:

“Once you have a diagnosis, educate yourself and then own your ADHD.”

    ADHD Everyday

Dr. Joy brings to the table the fact that she lives with ADHD everyday...along with her kids.

She knows first-hand there is no cookie cutter approach to treating and managing your ADHD.

As a knowledgable and resourceful coach, she recommends checking out the following:

    1) mindfulness

    2) exercise

    3) medication

    4) nutrition

  • 170 | Just Be You

I'm stressing the message this week to just be you. Just be yourself.

Often and especially when I'm working with clients who are looking for answers outside of themselves, I'm encouraging them, over and over, to look inside.

The way you are, the way you process information, your beliefs, your values, your experiences...all shape who you are.

You are awesome...flaws and all...so, you are flawsome!
