Soli Deo Gloria — To God Alone Be the Glory!

We, in the United States, don’t really know what it means to be persecuted just for being a Christian. Pastors getting arrested for opening their churches during the COVID pandemic was about as rough as it got here in North America. Nonetheless, elsewhere in the world, it’s way worse. Jesus warned us about persecution. What can we do to support our Christian brothers and sisters from the Americas? We can pray. Let’s dig in…

Soli Deo Gloria — To God Alone Be the Glory!

According to the dictionary, integrity means … “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness”. Another meaning is “the state of being whole and undivided, uncorrupted, unimpaired, consistent”.

In today’s psalm, David is asking God to declare him innocent. That is something that God will ask of you at some point. Are you innocent of all sin? You know the answer! Let’s dig in…

Soli Deo Gloria — To God Alone Be the Glory!

Who is Satan? He's known as the devil and Lucifer. "Satan" is actually a title, a position. When you hear something called "satanic", it means whatever it is grounded in evil and darkness. "Lucifer" -- which means "light-bringer" -- was one of God's highest angels. Learn how He fell and what he's still up to. Let's dig in...

Soli Deo Gloria — To God Alone Be the Glory!

It’s the around the year 896 BC and Ahab’s son Ahaziah is king of the northern kingdom of Israel. The Moabites decided that they’ve had enough of Israeli rule (since King David) and they rebel. At the same time, Ahaziah has a terrible accident. However, instead of praying to the One True God of Israel, he rejects “Baal” of the Syrians (Amonites), for “Baal-Zebub” of the Philistines. Ironically, the prophet Elijah, on Mt. Carmel, proved the uselessness of pagan gods Baal and Asherah and their 850 prophets, not that long ago. That could have been why Ahaziah went looking for the other fake god instead of the real one. God is a jealous God. He cannot stand when people pray to or worship idols. Enter Elijah… Let’s dig in….

Soli Deo Gloria — To God Alone Be the Glory!

Kings. Israel wanted a king like all the nations around them. So, God gave them Saul. He disobeyed God. Then God anointed David.  Now, David is very old, about 70, and bedridden. Here, we’ll meet  David’s successor to the throne. First, his oldest son, Adonijah, then  the one chosen by God, Solomon.

The Books of 1 and 2 Kings serve as a backbone for the rest of the  Bible. Scholars think that the prophet Jeremiah wrote it. These books  are the key to understanding the history and framework of the Bible and  Israel. It’s a spiritual commentary and a historical record on how  Israel got it wrong.

God made Covenant after Covenant — that’s an agreement or contract —  with Israel. What God wanted was simple — you obey Him and He’ll provide  everything you need. That’s still how He works!  However, over and over  again, the people broke the Covenant…

The story continues. We’re in c. 970 BC. Let’s dig in…

Crazy King Saul is dead! Long live King David! Ah, not so fast. In the last chapter of 1 Samuel, Saul and his three sons were killed in battle by the Philistines. As  it turns out, Saul had another son, Isbosheth. Probably, he was not exactly a legitimate heir to the throne. In any case, one of Saul’s generals had a different idea besides King David, which makes for an  interesting dilemma for David and his army as he takes his god-appointed throne. Let’s dig in….
