Segment: The Right Mentor Can Unlock Capital You Never Had

Listen Later

"When you are a mentee to someone, you don't need capital. They can help you unlock capital. They can give you their property as collateral. They can give you their connection. Just one call can lead you. Someone to put his reputation there for you, you have to be at a position you should have justified beyond every reasonable doubt."

In this deeply transformative episode of Konnected Minds, we sit down with Sami Medical Landlord, a pharmacy entrepreneur who built multiple thriving businesses before most people his age even think about starting, to unpack the raw, unfiltered truth about mentorship, why the stories successful people tell are never the full story, and why everything you've been taught about needing capital, connections, or perfect information to start is keeping you stuck while others build empires from relationships and strategic positioning you already have access to.

We dive into the brutal reality of mentorship and what it actually unlocks, why when you are a mentee to someone you don't need capital because they can help you unlock capital even if it's not your own money, why they can give you their property or assets as collateral for funding, and why just one call from them can open doors that would take you years to access on your own. We break down why there are places he goes and simply says I am a mentee to so and so, and the person calls his mentor who vouches for him even though they don't know whether he's credible or not, and why someone willing to put their reputation on the line for you means you have to be at a position where you've justified it beyond every reasonable doubt. We discuss why this level of trust and access is not given freely but earned through consistency, character, and proving yourself in small things before big opportunities come.

But we also confront the uncomfortable truth about why successful people don't always tell the full story, why a lot of things have jammed our optimism threshold or belief threshold such that things that used to convince us no more convince us, and why there are people who have narrated stories that later on turned out not to be the case so now a lot of people are struggling to know who of this one is not like the first one. We unpack the biblical story of Saul who met Samuel and was anointed to be king, but when his uncle asked him what Samuel said, he only told him about the flock being found and left out the part about becoming king, and why the scripture said he never told him the entire story because perhaps it would not have been that good. We discuss why it is not coincidental that when Africans are traveling they don't inform their families, why Joseph told his family his dream and they threw him in a pit and wanted to kill him, and why at Micah 7 the Bible says don't trust even the closest companion, even the woman who lies in your bosom, because a lot of people have told their stories and people made nonsense of it or used it to attack them.

We get into the story of someone who told a story about how his pharmacy was doing well and his next move to get a new location, but when he went for the location the person he told the story to went behind him and took the location, and why your security is to your power. We break down why people tell their stories in books and other platforms but sometimes they leave some part of it, why his mentor told his full story in The UT Story about how 19 families and friends promised to invest when he got his savings and loans license but not even one person helped him, and why people tell their story but if you want the inner version you may have to justify that when they tell you you're not going to make nonsense of it. We discuss why some stories may be too much for you to bear so they may not tell you, why you need a particular set of hardware to handle a particular set of software, and why the Bible says do not cast pearls before swine because they will trample on it and hurt themselves.
