  • What is the Enneagram and Why Should You Care? Selfie, Episode 10
What can you learn about your internal motivations and drives from the Enneagram? We’re kicking off a series on this fascinating personality theory. In this introductory episode we will explain what it is, and then talk through each type with writer and enneagram enthusiast Leigh Kramer. We’re also joined by Christopher Heuertz, author of The Sacred Enneagram, who shares some of the history of the enneagram, it’s spiritual origins and modern psychological iterations, and how our childhood fears and wounds shape our personality. It’s a fascinating episode that we hope will inspire you to join us on this journey of exploration.
To take the test to find out your own type, you can visit this site for a quick, free test, or buy the $12 Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator test at the Enneagram Institute for a more thorough assessment and explanation of your secondary types. (We recommend springing for the paid test.)
Here are some books we talked about in this episode:
The Wisdom of the Enneagram: The Complete Guide to Psychological and Spiritual Growth for the Nine Personality Types by Riso and Hudson
The Complete Enneagram: 27 Paths to Greater Self-Knowledge by Beatrice Chestnut

The Sacred Enneagram: Finding Your Unique Path to Spiritual Growth by Christopher L. Heuertz

  • Internet Addiction + Spiritual Detachment + TV As Self-Care | Selfie Podcast Episode 07
Is the internet making us dumber? More dumb? How can detachment help us avoid self-hate? And can watching TV be a form of self-care? In this episode, we chat about our collective addiction to scrolling the internet, and the negative effects of screentime (and how to get control.) We also chat with Cheri Huber, author of There Is Nothing Wrong with You: Going Beyond Self-Hate and founder of the Zen Monastery Peace Center , about the process of letting go of our negative personal narratives. And we chat about television as an escape, and some of our current guilty pleasures on TV.
In this episode, we talked about:
    * The StayFocusd chrome extension can kill facebook and twitter after a certain amount of time each day.
    * Rescuetime is the app that can email you a measure of your productivity each week. Have it auto-email to a friend for some real-talk accountability.
    * The moment app can tell you how many times you’ve checked your phone in a day.
    * In addition to being a must-have internet filter to keep kids off inappropriate sites, the Circle by Disney device can give you a daily overview of how you are spending your time online.
    * Wanna take the challenge to get your phone out of your room? As it turns out, there are alarm clocks! And sound machines!
    * The book Facehooked: How Facebook Affects Our Emotions, Relationships, and Lives is a fascinating look at our collective facebook addiction. Some other good books on this topic:
    * Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked
    * The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains
    * The Glass Cage: How Our Computers Are Changing Us
    * Cheri Huber dropped some knowledge. If you want to explore more, here are some of her books:
    * The Fear Book: Facing Fear Once and for All
    * Transform Your Life: A Year of Awareness Practice
    * Be the Person You Want to Find: Relationship and Self-Discovery

  • We’re talking pubic hair: to remove or not to remove? And also: the art of detachment | Selfie Podcast Episode 6
This is my favorite episode of Selfie so far because 1) our conversation about pubic hair was so cringey and hilarious that my cheeks hurt from laughing, and 2) our conversation about detachment with Bj Hickman was full of life-giving lightbulb moments about relationships and detaching from people pleasing.
In this episode we take a deep dive (ooph) into pubic hair and some of the challenges of hair removal in this delicate area, sharing our own experiences with lasers, waxing, shaving, trimming, and even Nair. We also chat with therapist B.J. Hickman about the psychological concept of detachment, and how we can care for others without losing ourselves.
In this episode, we talked about:
    * Kristen swears by this bikini trimmer gadget for bikini hair removal without the unsightly bumps of shaving.
    * Brave enough to try waxing at home? This kit from Amazon has good reviews.
    * Are you a good candidate for laser hair removal?
    * Melody Beattie wrote the quintessential book on detachment called The Language of Letting Go.
    * Brene Brown’s book I Thought It Was Just Me is also an excellent guide to self-acceptance.
    * Take a look at the history of hair removal.
