Are you considering hiring a coaching or consulting professional but aren't sure what you should ask?
Don't get caught on that free call off-guard by a professional selling a transformation without having some questions of your own prepared. Today we will share our top questions that all consumers should consider before hiring a coach. And if you are a coaching professional, these are the questions you should be prepared to answer.
Many people who have sought out the mentorship or guidance of a coaching professional in the online space has at one point or another been invited to an initial call with said professional.
Today's episode we are talking about those first-call experiences. From sh*tty sales scripts to shame-spiraling questions, some coaches will stop at nothing to make the sale. Some will to guide prospective clients how to take out credit cards and sell belongings to join a time-based coaching programs that often-times come with no guarantee.
Today we are examining the problematic posts and ideas from boss babe and influencer, Carolyn Elliott. Carolyn brands herself as a witch and coach that can help you integrate your shadow side. While we would love to break down the issues with offering an entry-level 75-minute consultation session for $1500, we'll simply start by examining how Carolyn doubled down on giving cultural appropriation a solid endorsement by saying her ancestral (euro-centric) indigenous ancestors and practices were erased and therefore, she is Indigenous. WRONG - sorry, not sorry, Carolyn, but it doesn't work this way.
This week we are discussing Life Coach and "Boss Babe", Rachel Hollis. Rachel landed on our radar this week because of her downright (recurring) bad behavior online. From gaslighting her audience about her impending divorce, to plagiarizing Maya Angelou (among others), Rachel Hollis has shown her audience, and others watching, who she is and what she stands for time and time again. This week is no different where Hollis, on a TikTok video brought over to Instagram creates a video that exhibits her white privilege and her lack of understanding of how privilege actually works. While she is at it, she dehumanizes the person that cleans her house while letting her audience know that her goal was never to be relatable. We're calling bullshit on Rachel Hollis as she has built an entire life and brand off of her sheer relatability.
We are two white women sitting down to chat about how one white women coach, Rachel Hollis, acted out online. We acknowledge that Rachel Hollis is a white-lady problem and while we call her into accountability, we understand that all white folks must continue to show up to their own inner-work as well, and that includes us.
We aren't the only folks talking about this and we acknowledge that this short podcast doesn't even dare to scratch the surface of the extent of the harm caused by Rachel Hollis. Therefore, we are urging you to examine the links below, compensate the teachers, and take the action items listed out.

This week Rachel and Meg tackle some of the most cringe-worthy bro-marketing tactics so you can spot it and avoid them as you navigate the digital landscape. It's no surprise that many of the high ticket coaches out there need to do unethical things to make TONS of money that they are also going to encourage you to do - better to know the red flags and avoid them all together!
