Birdie, Maurice and Gil set off cross country in the ice cream van in search of Zephyrus, the weather station where Birdie is convinced she will find The Angel and a clue to the location of the library. But Gil is struggling to cope with the pain of his broken arm and the loss of his wife. Meanwhile Jessie and Cal are captured in The Floating City.
