  • Following Paul’s Example (Part 1)
In our text, Paul wrote to Timothy about how the young evangelist had followed the apostle’s example in various ways. Examples are important. Paul knew that he needed to set an example to others (cf. 1 Corinthians 11:1). What about us? Are we setting the example that we need to set before others? Timothy was to follow Paul’s example, yet he was also to be an example to others (cf. 1 Timothy 4:12). The same is true for us. We need to set the same example for others that Paul set for Timothy (and for us).

  • Cleansing Ten Lepers
Throughout Jesus’ earthly ministry, He performed various miracles to demonstrate His divine power. The miracle we are discussing here was when Jesus healed ten men of leprosy. What one of them did afterward was remarkable. As we study this miracle, as with every Bible passage, it is important to understand the context. This miracle teaches us certain things about Jesus and provides an important lesson for us.

  • Shake the Dust Off Your Feet
In our text, Jesus gave His apostles a “limited commission.” If people did not receive them, they were to shake the dust off their feet – a symbolic gesture indicating that the apostles were not responsible (they did what they could) and the people were accountable for their rejection of the message. This was also done in carrying out the Great commission (Acts 13:49-51) when Paul’s preaching was rejected, so he left to teach others elsewhere. In our efforts to teach others, we may have times when we need to shake the dust off our feet and move on. When do we do this?

  • Answering Basic Questions (Part 12): What Happens When We Die?
In our text, Peter explained that each Christian needs to be ready to give an answer for what we believe. Giving a defense for the HOPE within us requires an ability to articulate the basics of our faith. In this series, we are going to discuss some basic questions that may arise. This is to help reinforce our own faith and help prepare us to teach others as opportunities arise.

  • Who Is Affected by Sin?
The prophet described a judgment against the people of the earth. The reason for this was sin. The inhabitants polluted the earth – not with trash or greenhouse gases; instead they “transgressed laws, violated statutes, broke the everlasting covenant” (v. 5). Most people do not realize the seriousness of sin, yet it causes destruction. Like pollution, it affects more than just the one who committed the sin. In this lesson we want to consider this question: Who is affected by sin?

  • Dwelling Together in Unity
This psalm describes the blessing of unity among the people of God, calling it good and pleasant. “Good” is a word used of God’s creation (Genesis 1:4, 31), so it is good because it has been made by God. “Pleasant” is often associated with the sweet sound of praise (Psalm 135:3; 147:1), so this honors God. Let us consider what this short psalm teaches us.

  • Be Subject to One Another in the Fear of Christ
Paul talked about being “subject to one another” and the various relationships in which we do this. This is the idea of placing ourselves “under” someone – not by force as if we were defeated, but willingly. Ultimately, we do this because we are subjecting ourselves to the Lord as it is done “in the fear of Christ.” This is important to remember in a world that pushes the idea that each individual is a standard to himself. Yet Jesus calls us to deny self (cf. Luke 9:23) and put others ahead of ourselves because we put Him first.
