A litany of rainbows

But wherever a shrine is built, so also is built the desire to want to protect it, to keep it holy, to keep it safe. Let’s not build a shrine. Let’s not be afraid to live our faith unprotected. Let’s not try to play it safe. Let’s not try to plan where we are going before we get there.

We all know from personal experience that following the law does not always work on our favor...The power of lament speaks to a future hope…that things will not remain that way forever.

Maybe we feel unworthy because of something we’d done or something we’d failed to do. Maybe we think we are unworthy because society has sent us a message that who we are and what we do and how we live are unacceptable in the eyes of God. Or perhaps we have done something in the midst of our brokenness that feels like it has separated us or block us from the love of God. And sometimes perhaps we ask the question of God, too, “What do you have to do with me.”

Maybe we think we are unworthy because society has sent us a message that who we are and what we do and how we live are unacceptable in the eyes of God. Or perhaps we have done something in the midst of our brokenness that feels like it has separated us or block us from the love of God. And sometimes perhaps we ask the question of God, too, “What do you have to do with me.”

God is breaking in to our world and in to our lives in unexpected and disruptive ways. But disruptive doesn’t always mean monumental. God’s call can be subtle - a gentle nudge or a nagging thought. It doesn’t have to be a world-upending event. But God’s call is always disruptive, moving us to extraordinary things, and it is a call we can answer if, when the time come, we are willing to follow. There is always a little bit of risk involved when we leave our nets behind, when we leave the safety of what we know for the mystery and the risk of the unknown.
