Once the place (tabernacle) and the furniture (things like the altars) were established, God decreed that only one man would be permitted to enter into His presence

The Tabernacle was intended to teach us about the nature of God and the way we were to relate to Him. As much as God was coming to dwell with His people, there were many obstacles to getting close to Him. In fact, only the High Priest could get really close and only once a year. But every step toward that inner sanctum called the Holy of Holies required that priest to walk past or walk up to certain pieces of furniture that would teach. Prayer and propitiation made up the last two things he would be taught before standing in the presence of God Himself.

God has saved us and brought us from death to life, and made us into a new creation so that we would be a people who seek to live a life of good works.

The Tabernacle was sparsely furnished. For “the” meeting place with God, there was barely anything in it. But each item held deep significance. Rather than speculate about the particulars, we can look at the rest of the Bible and begin to see what each piece of furniture pointed to or symbolized. They were not made willy-nilly, but represented things both in heaven and on earth. Some of those were things we had lost. Others were things still with us. All of them were pointing to a Saviour.

The God delights to bless people with his very own presence, and he has accomplished this by his Son becoming a curse so that we might be blessed.
