The apostle Paul sets for the central doctrine of the Christian faith: we are not saved by who we are or by our works, but by the work of Jesus Christ, received by faith (Galatians 2:15-16)

Jesus was born for a purpose, and that was “to save sinners” like you and me.

David has won the war. He has survived a rebellion by his son Absalom and now begins to return to Jerusalem.

The scene as David learns of Absalom’s death reminds us of two great truths about sin: first, that sin brings misery and destruction in its wake; and second, that the grace of God can bring hope and restoration.

This is a story about the preparation for a battle, a battle, and the aftermath of the battle, but more than that, it is a reminder that God finishes what He starts.
