In 2 Samuel 9, King David shows extravagant kindness to Mephibosheth, someone who had every reason to expect rejection, not welcome. An enemy’s descendant. A man in a low place. Yet David pulls him to the table and treats him like family. Pastor Josh reminded us that this is what God is like: A kind King who moves toward people, not away from them. A King who rewrites stories. A King who says, you matter more than you think. No matter what your past has told you, a new story is possible through King Jesus. And it starts with this truth: you must be important.

Pastor Ashish preached from Psalm 23 with a message about walking through the valley. He reminded us that sheep are not strong or self-sufficient. They are needy, vulnerable, and easily lost, just like us. And yet they are never abandoned by the Shepherd. Today, Pastor Ashish preached from Luke 2:25-35 about Waiting on God from the life of Simeon.

Simeon was an ordinary, righteous man living in Jerusalem who was waiting for the consolation of Israel. He was not waiting for circumstances to improve, but for God to fulfill what He had promised. Simeon had no title, no timeline, and no control over the outcome, yet he remained faithful. When the Holy Spirit led him to the temple and he finally held Jesus, Simeon declared that he could depart in peace, because God had delivered on His word. Three things that Simeon's life reveals about waiting on God:

First, waiting on God tunes our ears to the Spirit.

Luke emphasizes the work of the Holy Spirit throughout Simeon’s story. His waiting was attentive, not rushed. Over time, waiting sharpened Simeon’s ability to recognize the Spirit’s prompting and to recognize Jesus when He arrived. In the same way, waiting trains believers to slow down, listen, and respond to God’s guidance.

Second, waiting on God breaks our need to be in control.

Simeon received a promise without a plan or a timeline. Waiting exposed the illusion of control and invited trust instead. God detoxes our need for control while we wait for Him.

Third, waiting on God brings us to a place where Jesus is enough.

After a lifetime of waiting, Simeon did not ask for more, he was ready to die. His contentment revealed a mature faith shaped by waiting.

We get to not waste seasons of waiting. God uses waiting to form hearts, deepen trust, and form a settled soul that can confidently say, “Jesus, You are enough.”

Peace has a name… Jesus.
