Severed: The Ultimate Severance Podcast

HEY, REFINER! GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK!!
So, are you curious as to what was going on with those outies during the last week? We saw Mark and what's left of the MDR crew re-assemble at the diamond desk during Episode One. It was a busy week down on the Severed Floor with a lot of weird twists.

This episode fills in those outie details. It's an 'all outie' episode!! What were the outies up to as Mark and the gang were trying to get back to work? Mostly getting fired and re-hired by Lumon. We see Seth Milchick is a motorcycle guy. Dylan tries to get another job...but we learn being severed makes him undesirable in the work world. We watch Ms. Cobel get re-hired, but kind of turn it down. She then leaves the neighborhood in a blaze of glory that will not be matched for many years to come.

Get to your workstation, Refiner! It's time to open the file called "Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig." This file is so big, this week is PART ONE.

IT'S TIME TO TAKE THIS SEASON HOME, REFINER!!
Welcome to Part One of "Cold Harbor", the Season Two Finale of "Severance." It's a HUGE episode with fully half an hour more content than a regular S2 episode.

This time out, we head to the Damona Birthing Cabin. Innie and Outie Mark have a great conversation together. Cobel tries to convince innie-Mark he needs to reintegrate. Devon is worried about her brother and has decided to put her trust in Mrs. Selvig....er, Cobel...whoever this person is who seems to know what's happening down on the Severed Floor.

Light a fire and grab a vintage camcorder, Refiner. We've got a long evening ahead of us.

HEY, REFINER! NO MESSING AROUND...WE'VE GOT A FILE TO GET TO!!
Time to keep it going with Part TWO of the 'all outie' episode!! What were the outies up to as Mark and the gang were trying to get back to work? Mostly getting fired and re-hired by Lumon. We see Seth Milchick is a motorcycle guy. Dylan tries to get another job...but we learn being severed makes him undesirable in the work world. We watch Ms. Cobel get re-hired, but kind of turn it down. She then leaves the neighborhood in a blaze of glory that will not be matched for many years to come.

It's time to head back down to the Severed Floor of Lumon Industries. The Rewatch is ON!! We're going to fully review every moment of Season Two of 'Severance.'

This episode, "Hello, Ms. Cobel" was the premier for Season Two. There had been a nearly three year lag since the final moments of Season One left us all hanging from a huge cliff.

So we're back, and things are CRAZY! There are new folks in MDR, Ms. Casey is gone, Milchick is running the place and Mark might have to give up his name to another Mark.

TiME TO FINISH OFF "THE AFTER HOURS"!!
So glad to have you back on the Severed Floor, Refiner! This week we are finishing up the file called "The After Hours." We've got a big day planned! Mark and Devon are going to meet up with Cobel...and then wait all day with her out in the woods. Both innie and outie-Dylan are going to get so mad about the whole "Outie Familiy Visitation Suite" they BOTH decide it's time to retire.

Oh, and we've got Milchick getting ALL up in Drummond's face! Don't miss one of the most incredible Milchick Scenes we've EVER seen! It's spawned quite a few memes.

Time to hop in the back of the Jeep Commanche, Refiner! Get under the tarp. Cobel is going to drive us right into the heart of the Damona Birthing Retreat, Cabin #5. It's going to be a REAL eye opener!

Welcome back, Refiner! It's time to return to the Severed Floor for more re-watch! This time, we're taking a deep-dive look at 'The After Hours.' Ever want to have breakfast with the Eagans?? Okay, so maybe the George's? We'll get to do BOTH this time around! We're also going to find out what Ms. Huang's mission has been at Lumon (it involves a carved Walnut Head-of-Jame). 

Doctor Maurer is concerned because the numbers aren't moving. He calls Drummond who calls Seth Milchick. Nobody knows what's up with Mark S.!! Except for his sister, that is.

Turns out, Mark and Devon are headed for a clandestine roadside meeting with none other than Harmony Cobel.

So...what do you like for breakfast? We've got hard-boiled eggs or a kale smoothie!!

ANOTHER GREAT INTERVIEW THIS WEEK, REFINER!!
No 'Severance' production person is safe! Vinny P. is tracking them down and locking them into interview slots for the show. This week we talked to a legendary figure in the world of 'Severance' props and set dec. We've got "Penko the Sculptor"!!

Penko's last name, Platikanov, is a bit of a mouthful. Rather than say it incorrectly, the folks around the 'Severance' set have gone to referring to this incredibly talented man as "Penko the Sculptor".  This is also a succint description of what he does around here. If it's a thing that's a little off...like say the Irv-head melon, or the statue of Kier in the town square...Penko probably had something to do with it. Penko is the 'anti-CGI' guy. Much of what he does I have attributed to CGI throughout my re-watch of the show. Nope! Those amazing visual tricks...like a dead seal carcass along the path, or a big statue in the town square...are all practical effects. Penko is that good. He's creating things you would believe were CGI if you didn't know any better. You're gonna love this guy!

ANOTHER BIG HUFF TO FINISH IT OFF, REFINER!!
Welcome back to Salt's Neck for another week of fun and games with Harmony Cobel and her Aunt Sissy. Sissy lives in the shadow of Kier and the old Lumon Ether plant. Neither has made an appearance in this place for forty years or more, but Sissy still holds out hope. 

Harmony is searching for something. She's just sure Sissy didn't sell it to the poor as she claimed. Harmony is also dealing with some big-time mommy issues. She wasn't allowed to come home for her mother's funeral. She's had no closure and a lot of grieving for a LONG time now. She leaves her good buddy Hampton out in his cold truck while she tries to commune with the ghost of her long-dead ether-huffing mother.

There is some healing...and some sleeping. An exhausted Harmony falls asleep in mom's bed. Hampton decides to retrieve her and enrage the Sissy-beast.

How can I talk for two and a half hours about a 37 minute episode?? Hey, there's a LOT happening here!!

WE'RE BACK TO THE RE-WATCH THIS WEEK, REFINER!!
Interviews are fun, and we love talking to the folks who make 'Severance' so incredible, but, we should never forget, this podcast was built on insanely detailed rewatches!! This week we are getting back into the S2 complete 'Severed' Re-watch with PART ONE of "Sweet Vitriol."

We have not heard or seen anything from Harmony Cobel since her very scary parking lot run-in with Helena Eagan and her gorilla of a driver in the episode "Who is Alive?" Guess what??!! Harmony made the trip to Salt's Neck! In this episode, we catch up with her out on the road. She's headed back to where she grew up. She's needing some things she left at home back when she was whisked away to be a star at the Myrtle Eagan School for Girls. 

This time out we meet up with Hampton at the Drippy Pot. He's one of Cobel's oldest and dearest friends. He's also in the grip of a massive ether addiction, much like the rest of this tiny and dilapidated town. Oh, and if you're in need of ether, Hampton can set you up. As Sissy calls him, he's a 'huff peddler.'

Oh, yeah...Sissy. We're going to meet Harmony's Aunt Celestine 'Sissy' Cobel. She's Harmony's mother Charlotte's sister. Sissy does NOT have a warm spot in her heart for Harmony, Hampton or this backwards little town on the seashore where she feels trapped by her beliefs. Or, maybe she does still feel some kinship with Harmony...she's just not willing to show it.

It's time to hop in the VW Rabbit and head for the chilly coast of P.E. as we open the file called "Sweet Vitriol." (and, uh...huff it if you've got it.)

We're having so much fun talking to 'Severance' production people, we're taking another week off from the re-watch to get in a FANTASTIC interview. Kick back and enjoy a really fun discussion with Tansy Michaud from the 'Severance' graphics department. Tanys is the lead designer for 'Severance.' She's been doing this since before there were any Lumon hallways. She created the Lumon Logo!! (plus DOZENS of other iconic items from the show).

We'll get into the tall weeds talking about graphic design and the indelible mark Tansy has left on the show!
