Is male or female circumcision an outdated religious/cultural practice? Mr. Steven Svoboda, Founder and Executive Director of ARC (Attorneys for the Rights of the Child) will be our guest addressing the issue of genital integrity.  ARC is a non-profit organization founded to secure equal protection for, and broaden judicial and public recognition of, children’s legal and human rights to bodily integrity and self-determination. ARC also focuses on female genital mutilation also known as FGM. Compelling reasons exist for strong concern among attorneys and the public about the various types of damage caused by circumcision including pain and suffering, psychological harm, behavioral changes, irreversible reduction or loss of full sexual function, and under-reported tragic complications, including deaths.  Has satisfactory medical justification for routine circumcision ever been demonstrated?  Join us and find out the facts!

Our guest is Nelson Rimensnyder. Nelson is a noted political historian who served on the District of Columbia committee of Congress for many years. He will discuss the origins of the District of Columbia through the debates of the Constitutional Convention, early related Congressional action, and some reasons why the enfranchisement of DC residents was not sufficiently addressed. He will also review proposals and attempted actions over the past 200 years to mitigate the unique status of District residents, the only citizens of the United States who are taxed without their consent and governed by congress to which they elect no voting members.

Have you ever wanted to know what it’s like to work with REAL wolves up close? Our guest, Ken Ferber is here to talk about the many years of being a volunteer for a wolf Sanctuary called the Wolf Connection.  Wolf Connection is a youth education and empowerment program, with rescued wolves and wolf dogs as the centerpiece. Wolf Connection believes that the deep understanding of our relationships with animals and the environment is paramount in our development as individuals, productive societies, and sustainable civilization on this planet. With the help of the animals, young men and women reconnect with nature, learn to be of service by responsibly caring for another being, and work towards becoming the kind of person they want to be. The animals help them focus on their impulses, feelings and emotions in a constructive way; they learn to forgive and give others (and themselves) a second chance. They also reflect on, and learn about, loyalty, honesty, integrity, courage, contribution to society, commitment, sense of purpose, and self confidence.

On our program for Sunday, February 14th, Valentine’s Day, we’re taking a unique approach to this traditional day of love and commitment.  Please join us as we introduce you to meet Dr. Bonnie Eaker Weil, an internationally acclaimed psychologist.  Dr. Bonnie will be speaking with us about adultery.  She wrote a book, “Adultery, the Forgivable Sin” and she will share with us how adultery might be considered a disease that follows generations in a family and how a couple can heal and recover from adultery.  Following Dr. Bonnie will be Jules Martinez Hirst, a nationally prominent expert on etiquette.  Jules will speak with us about manners such as how to introduce one person to another, how to set the table, what to do with your napkin when you leave the table, which utensils to use and when and how.  Additionally, Jules will talk about entertaining clients or colleagues professionally and what is expected in those encounters to distinguish us from others who aren’t paying attention to the finer points.
