  • The Genesis Of Shame w/ Pastor Steve Treichler

In this compelling episode, Ken Freire sits down with Steve Treichler (aka Trike), senior pastor of Hope Community Church in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Together, they explore the origin of shame through Genesis chapters 1-3 and how understanding this foundational narrative transforms our understanding of sin, shame, and redemption.

    Highlights:

    • The Framework of Scripture: Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration. How Genesis 1-3 sets the stage for the entire biblical narrative.
    • The Intimacy of Creation: The significance of God breathing life into Adam and the unique creation of Eve as a helper.
    • Shame's Origin: Adam and Eve's disobedience, the serpent’s deception, and the immediate impact of shame on their relationship with God and each other.
    • Shame and the Gospel: How Jesus Christ not only pays the penalty for sin but also removes the shame that sin brings, as illustrated in Hebrews 12:2 and the concept of expiation.
    • Practical Advice for Overcoming Shame: The importance of gospel friendships, confessing struggles, and preaching the gospel to yourself daily.

    Key Quote:
"Shame is holding onto something that Jesus has already taken. The answer is not trying harder but trusting in the finished work of Christ, who removes both our sin and shame." — Steve Treichler

  • The 5 Major Reasons People Struggle

Over the last 2 decades of overcoming this addiction and helping other men I found a major problem with the how people were getting help.

From a non-christian perspective they try to use insufficient means to heal you or actually try to convince to keep doing it as long as it’s not hurting anyone.

From a christian perspective, denominational streams focused on only one domain of how people struggle. This still lead to people feeling like they are fighting a losing battle.

As I started to get healing in this area it seemed like I stumbled into something revolutionary at that time. I didn’t know how to put into words what was happening to me.

Until years later, I was taking a biblical counseling certification and our textbook gave this phenomenal framework.

It encapsulated years of what God was doing in my life into a single diagram. So no, I wasn’t God’s gift to mankind who found this revolutionary way to be healed from this addiction.

In fact, great men and women of the faith have been trained on this type of framework.

The beauty of this framework is that it gives us the 5 major reasons or domains in which people struggle with any addiction.

I’m using it particularly for pornography in this episode but if you are struggling with other addictions you can certainly use this framework to start to diagnose why you’re struggling.

So lets dig into the 5 major reasons people struggle with their addictions.

  • Trailer: Shame(less) Podcast

Shame can come from a variety of reasons. In this first season, I’m going to explore how pornography addiction causes shame.

There are 3 goals to the podcast:

    1. Provide a place for vulnerable conversations.
We tend to keep tons of secrets and not feel safe sharing our struggles.

As I interview guests, I hope our vulnerability will show you that you’re not alone and that there are people who’ve overcome the battle and can help.

    2. Provide Biblical Truths from Biblical Counselors & Coaches:

I plan to feature insights and practical advice from biblical counselors and coaches who specialize in helping men break free from shame.

For example, I believe freedom begins with understanding who we are in Christ. I’ll explore how our identity as beloved children of God empowers us to overcome addiction and live victoriously.

    3. Share Stories from Other Leaders Who've Overcome Shame: There is power in testimony. We'll hear from Christian entrepreneurs and leaders who have walked through the valley of addiction and emerged stronger. Their stories will inspire and equip us with the tools needed to overcome our struggles.

So, If you or someone you know is feeling trapped and ashamed because of your addictions, this podcast is for you and I have 2 simple requests:

    1. Subscribe now and don't miss an episode.

    2. Share this with another guy who can benefit from this podcast.

Stay tuned for our first full episode coming soon. Until then, You are not alone in this battle.

No longer will shame kill your dreams and legacy. Together, with the power of God’s grace, we will Kill Shame, Stand Strong, And Be on Mission.
