The Coming of the Holy Spirit

5th in a series from the Book of Acts recorded in assisted living center near Auburn, California. Acts 2:1-4. A brief review of last week’s completion of chapter one. The coming of the Holy Spirit as promised with the visible signs of a “rushing mighty wind” & “tongues as of fire”. Observations of the disciples being in one accord, all individuals receiving the Spirit as compared to prior times in the Old Testament where the Spirit came and went on selective individuals like the king or prophet. The languages that were spoken were known languages somewhere in the world in their original dialect and not gibberish.

Matthias Chosen to Join the Apostles

4th in a series from the Book of Acts recorded in assisted living center near Auburn, California. Acts 1:20-26 After reviewing the highlights from last week we discussed the process of the disciples, led by Peter, in the choosing of Matthias. They started off with prayer which is a great observation. They cast lots, an Old Testament way of finding the Lord’s will. Ultimately they trusted the Lord and in His sovereign ability to choose Matthias.

Episode 59 - Denying the doctrine of original sin - In Romans 5:12-21 we see that all of us sin in Adam. This heresy is alive and well among street preachers. Judas Obtained a Part in the Ministry

3rd in a series from the Book of Acts recorded in assisted living center near Auburn, California. Acts 1:15-19. Brief review of last week then the focus was on the betrayer Judas Iscariot. John 6:70,71 where Jesus calls Judas, “a devil”. Read the account from Matt 27:3-9 where Judas tries to return the 30 pieces of silver, and although remorseful goes and hangs himself. Discussed his guidance to the garden, the details of his death, and the field of blood.

This Same Jesus Who was Taken Up

Acts 1:9-14 After reviewing last week we looked at Jesus taken up in a cloud, appearance of angels, and disciples head back to Jerusalem. Discussed passage in Daniel 9 “one like the Son of Man” and this relation to Jesus in His trial before the Sanhedrin. Also the second coming of Christ. Gave a hand out on the lists of the disciples in the Gospels comparing it to Acts chapter one.

I was at an evangelism conference once when one of the brothers had suggested when asked if we should be sharing our personal testimony out there in the streets, he commented: nobody wants to hear about your life. Well this rather abrupt answer is a stark reality. Sometimes out there in the streets you get the idea that you're casting your pearls before swine, and the more in-depth you get with your personal testimony people can get very insulting and negative.

Having said that however, we look to the Bible we see that personal testimony was given in the means of evangelism. The first one that comes to mind is the Apostle Paul. He recounted his conversion before the Jewish crowds and also before King Agrippa. In this episode we do want to look at what the Bible says about sharing your personal testimony; what we should be sharing and what we shouldn't be sharing.
