Stephen Discourse on Israel’s History20th in a series from the Book of Acts - Acts 7:1-36 recorded in my home studio Citrus Heights, California. Instead of Stephen defending himself of false accusations, he begins a long discourse on Israel’s history with a lot of focus on Moses. I have included an excerpt from a song, “ We are standing on Holy Ground” in which I have a great testimony of that song in a past evangelistic endeavor many years ago. I share the testimony as well. Do to the length of the chapter we stopped in verse 36 but will finish up next time with the outcome of Stephen’s preaching.

Stephen Accused of Blasphemy19th in a series from the Book of Acts - Acts 6:7-15 recorded in my home studio Citrus Heights, California. Finishing up the last half of chapter 6 seeing how Stephen, one of the seven, also had a ministry to the people besides serving tables. He was full of the Holy Spirit and did miracles. Like all effective ministries it came under attack from those who made false accusations, stretching the truth, and thus putting Stephen before the council. We see a pattern was continued with the followers of Jesus as they were lied about in order to prevent them from continuing the ministry. We looked at the value of maintaining a good attitude and countenance when under pressure.

Seven Chosen to Serve18th in a series from the Book of Acts - Acts 6:1-6 recorded in my home studio Citrus Heights, California. The widows being neglected was the cause for the Apostles to have the disciples choose 7 men to appoint over the business of the practical needs of the Church. Although not actually called deacons most believe this is the first mention of this office. The Apostles wisely saw the need to pay attention to the most important task of leadership; and that was the seeking of the Lord through prayers and ministry of the Word. We looked at the qualifications of the deacons and the practice of laying on of hands.

Apostles Arrested Again - Gamaliel’s Advice 17th in a series from the Book of Acts - Acts 5:17-42 recorded in my home studio Citrus Heights, California. The Apostles were arrested again and escaped prosecution twice, once by an angel and once by Gamaliel’s advice. Peter preaching the Gospel before the Sanhedrin. The council's threats not to preach or teach in the name of Jesus were in vain as that is what they continued to do from house to house and in the temple. The Apostles reaction to their flogging; they were glad they were counted worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus.

Ananias & Sapphira - Judgement on Hypocrisy16th in a series from the Book of Acts - Acts 5:1-16 recorded in my home studio Citrus Heights, California. Reviewed last time as we finished up chapter 4 - We see the continued theme; Being filled with the Holy Spirit which then produces new converts, boldness for witnessing, and unity - sharing all things in common. Then looking at the notorious couple, Ananias & Sapphira drawing the conclusion that their sin was hypocrisy as they lied about the amount they gave ending in God’s severe judgement. After that we looked at what the Bible says about personal property. We ended our section as the continued ministry going on in Jerusalem with many miracles and healings, multitudes being saved.

Prayer for Boldness - Believers Unity15th in a series from the Book of Acts - Acts 4:23-37 recorded in my home studio Citrus Heights, California. First we reviewed last time and also expanded on the idea of civil disobedience and how it could apply to us. Our text shows us the unity, prayers, and boldness of these early disciples. They concluded that part of Psalm 2 was fulfilled in the conspiracy against Jesus Christ, although it was God’s plan the whole time. We meet Barnabas as he is one of several who sells some property to have distributed to those in need.

The Name of Jesus Forbidden 14th in a series from the Book of Acts - Acts 4:13-22 recorded in my home studio Citrus Heights, California. Brief review before addressing this week’s text; Looking at the Apostles civil disobedience when told not to speak or teach in the name of Jesus defy the severe warnings of the Sanhedrin. We looked at the contrast between today’s church and the early church when it comes to being a bold witness and the better qualifications of ministry by “being with Jesus”. I stress the importance of putting into practice our personal witness for Christ.

Peter & John Arrested by the Sanhedrin  13th in a series from the Book of Acts - Acts 4:1-12 which is normally recorded in assisted living center near Auburn, California, however due to illness this week I recorded in my home studio. Straightaway into the chapter with an introduction on the Jews under Roman authority and the Sanhedrin before going verse by verse.
