Blizzcon 2019 (Blizzard's very own gaming convention) wrapped up a few weeks back.  It featured a slew of gaming announcements including the reveal of Diablo 4, Overwatch 2, and a new expansion for World of Warcraft - Shadowlands. 

The convention also kicked off with an apology by Blizzard's president for the way they handled a tournament winner who supporter the Hong Kong protests live on camera. 

In our discussion, we share our thoughts on some key gaming announcements and the idea of taking responsibility when we know we have done something wrong.

A little while back we had the chance to discuss the major games being released towards the end of 2019.  Do these games live up to the hype?  Will you be playing them this holiday season?

We also reflect on the theory that many people often enjoy games that include a lot of exploration.  Could this love of exploring in games echo our desire to explore and have adventures in real life?  And could this impulse to know more of creation echo an even greater desire to know our Creator?

BlizzCon (Blizzard's very own gaming convention) kicks off this weekend.  In our last episode we discussed what we believe Activision Blizzard has been doing wrong (i.e. their original response to a player's support of Hong Kong).  In this episode (originally recorded a few weeks ago) we discuss one of the things we believe Blizzard has recently done right - the release of WOW Classic. 

Why has WOW Classic been so well received by fans?  Is it simply a fun trip down “memory lane”?    Or, is it because Classic almost forces you to search for something many feel is often missing in modern day WOW - the need for community? 

And beyond gaming, why is "community" so important for us as people and where are some healthy places we can seek it out?

Welcome to the Premiere of ShatterCast, Season 2! 

Recently, one of our viewers asked us to give our thoughts on a recent news story.  After discussing in our team we realized this topic was something we were very passionate about and was very personal to us.  We thought the discussion was so important that we decided to do some quick edits and make this our premiere episode.

Take a deep breath, here is the story so far to the best of our research...

A few weeks ago Activision Blizzard made news when they decided to penalize a player who made a brief statement supporting the protests in Hong Kong.  Blizzard was met with almost instant fan outrage for the perceived severity of their punishment, for what seemed like a double-standard when other players based in the U.S. expressed similar support of Hong Kong, and their actions received the attention of international news organizations and even congressional leaders in the U.S. 

Activision Blizzard has since decreased the penalty of the original player and has now penalized the U.S. based players in a similar fashion.  However, it still has led to many people still being unhappy with Blizzard and some even boycotting their games.  At the center of the controversy is the concern that Blizzard acted in such a way because of outside pressure they may have felt. 

Did Blizzard go too far with their original actions?  And how do we respond when we have a choice to make but might feel outside pressure as well?  How often in our own lives are we willing to stand up for what we believe is "right" even when we might feel like we may be standing alone?

Why is it that many of us enjoy stories of “Underdogs”? You know, tales of people that had very little hope of overcoming some great challenge, but pulled out a “win” in the end.

Games, movies, and all types of literature feature these thrilling tales. Earlier this year we had a chance to explore this incredible theme.  What draws us to these type of narratives? And what can you do if you ever feel like an “underdog” in your own life story?
