  • The Madinan Society: A Tafsir of Surat al-Hujurat Part 5
The Madīnan Society: A Tafsīr of Sūrat al-Ḥujurāt Part 5/12
Delivered by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq on Friday 13th May 2016 at Al Kawthar Academy, Leicester (UK)
    Video: https://youtu.be/oRTrMG3J-D8
After the Prophet ﷺ and his companions emigrated to Medina, Allah revealed laws with which Muslims must abide by so that they may live together peacefully. This Sūrat serves as a prime example of such intricate laws that detail not just how people should behave with one another, but how they should speak and think about each other.
Disagreements between believers are inevitable. Differences and arguments can happen between close family members, friends and business partners, but what should be done when these differences occur? How should we behave with one another in order to settle our differences and come to a mutual agreement?
This lecture highlights the stages of bringing about reconciliation between two parties and who this reconciliation should be done by. There are those God fearing men who can use kind words to dissolve any situation after many have failed before them. This talk emphasises the need for believers to act when two parties are in conflict, rather than idly sit back when injustice is taking place.

This fourth lesson places emphasis that despite our own knowledge and abilities, Allah and His Messenger ﷺ know best. This realisation was engraved within the Sahabah who fully submitted themselves to the commands of Allah. The sooner we come to realise that Islam is a mercy for us and that following our desires will lead to our own destruction, the sooner we can understand that the religion is there for ease and goodness in our lives.
This lesson concludes by discussing the delight of having true faith and the steps we can take in order to achieve it.

This third lesson third lesson details our need to verify information that we receive. It was for this reason that verses were revealed as the Muslims were prepared to march against the Banu Mustaliq whom they thought had committed treason. Enquiring about matters, however, is not the responsibility of everyone. This talk will detail when and who should enquire information and what is the responsibility of everyone else.
It is dangerous that we repeat everything that we hear and this talk details the havoc that it can cause.

This second lesson details the lapse that occurred between Abu Bakr and Umar in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Their disagreement escalated into an argument which lead to verses of the Qur'an being revealed about their behaviour. These verses were not just exclusive to them, but they can be applied to anyone in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ.
The lesson then continues by explaining the respect the Sahabah had before the Prophet ﷺ and how observing respect to bearers of ilm (knowledge) and gatherings of ilm is not an act of servility, but rather an essential component to ensure the knowledge penetrates our hearts.

This lecture forms the first lesson in the commentary of Sūrat al-Hujurāt (The Chambers), dealing with the etiquettes that should be observed before Rasulullah ﷺ. There are events which lead to the revelation of these verses and Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq will expound upon the stories and various narrations which coincide with these verses. The respect and etiquette shown to Rasulullah ﷺ during his life can still be applied today when studying his words. The consequences of a lack of respect are also highlighted in this talk.

  • The Hijrah of the Companions
The Hijrah of the Companions - Delivered by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq on Friday 15th September 2017 at Al Kawthar Academy, Leicester (UK)
    Video: https://youtu.be/UUNrwFlOwi4
The Islamic Calendar could have started from many important dates that happened during the life of the Prophet ﷺ; including the great battles, the treaty of Hudaybiyah and the conquest of Makkah, but the Sahabah collectively agreed that the hijrah should be considered as the start of the Islamic Calendar.
This momentous occasion is regarded highly in the eyes of Allah to the extent that those who performed the Hijrah sincerely have been praised throughout the Qur'an. The rank of the Muhajirun (those who emigrated) surpassed that of the other companions as they had renounced not only their homes and their possessions, but their citizenship to the city of Makkah.
In this talk, Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq will detail some of the remarkable events and sacrifices made by the believing men and women in order to make their Hijrah complete.
Below are some of the topics relating to this talk:
    - What does 'hijrah' mean?
    - Why did the Prophet ﷺ go to Ta'if?
    - The hijrah of Suhayb ar-Rumi
    - The remarkable story of Umm Salamah and her family's hijrah
    - The persecution of 'Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt and the hijrah of his daughter.

The Prophet’s ﷺ Family Life - Delivered by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq on 4th March 2016 at Al Kawthar Academy, Leicester (UK)
    Video: https://youtu.be/FlivjvW_KjU
Many of our cultural norms affect the way we behave with our family members. These often conflict with the way our noble Prophet ﷺ behaved within his home. Being a role model and inspiration to Muslims around the world, the Prophet ﷺ lived a simple life and was the best towards his family. But what exactly would he do at home?
This lecture will detail some of the routines the Prophet ﷺ would have. The simplicity in his life and the way he would help family members is an example which, unfortunately, many of us have forgotten today. This lecture will also mention what the Prophet ﷺ wanted for his family and how he worked together with them to ensure their success in the hereafter.
Find out more on how Rasulullah ﷺ conducted himself with his wives, highlighting his tolerance and patience, with many examples taken from the Quran and Hadith.

  • The Prophet's ﷺ Love for Children
The Prophet's ﷺ Love for Children - Delivered by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq on Friday 26th February 2016 at Al Kawthar Academy, Leicester (UK)
    Video: https://youtu.be/OPnnjNxYWsw
If we take any aspect of the character of Rasulullah ﷺ we come to realise that he is a shining example for all of humanity. His attitude and behaviour towards children was one which was full of compassion, love, justice and mercy. Despite being the leader of the Muslims, leading them into battle and conducting himself with leaders of various Arab tribes, he would adopt a playful and caring attitude when it came to spending time with children. His softness and leniency towards children serve as a prime example on how we should behave and treat children.
Rasulullah ﷺ was blessed with many daughters and was often mocked by the Quraysh of Makkah for not having any sons to continue his lineage. This was at a time where daughters were looked down upon and mistreated, however the Prophet ﷺ treated his daughters with much love and affection. Many examples can be found of the Prophet's ﷺ love for his daughters, especially those who saw how he would treat and behave with his beloved daughter Fāṭimah رضي الله عنها, often raising from where he sat to give her his seat. The Prophet ﷺ also demonstrated showing love and affection equally to all children, regardless of whether they were a relation to him or not. If we could but act on his conduct, we would have a society much happier and healthy towards children.
Find out in this talk how the Prophet ﷺ would show compassion, love and mercy to all children with many examples from Qur'an and Hadith.

  • Diseases of the Heart
Diseases of the Heart - Delivered by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq on Sunday 17th April 2016 at Al Kawthar Academy, Leicester (UK)
    Video: https://youtu.be/kQCvopuFRSc
We often pay a lot of attention to our bodies by joining the gym and eating healthily. We are always conscious of our physical state and how others view us, but there is also an importance when it comes to looking after one's mental state and spirit (Ruh). What does Islam say regarding the mental state of a person? How can a person live a healthy life both physically and mentally by following Allah and his Rasool ﷺ?
The diseases of the heart stem from a person's corruption of the mind. This can lead to hypocritical behaviour and negative emotions that can consume a person; such as envy, greed and malice. The leader of the hypocrites during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, Abdullah ibn Ubay ibn Salool, had a lot of what people aspire to. He had a pleasing physical appearance, charisma, wealth and was soon to be chosen as the leader of the people of Madina, yet due to his jealousy and hatred of the Prophet ﷺ he regularly betrayed and caused troubles to the Muslims. The reality of the Munafiqeen (hypocrites) was that they had corruption in the heart, despite looking physically fit and healthy. Therefore, we should also be fearful of the diseases which could spread in our own hearts.
Find out in this talk how to identify the diseases of the heart, how they can spread from within a person and what we can do to cultivate and nourish our hearts so that we are pure from negativity and hate.

  • Tazkiyah: Nurturing the Soul
Tazkiyah: Nurturing the Soul - Delivered by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq on 13th March 2016 at Al Kawthar Academy, Leicester (UK)
    Video: https://youtu.be/YWCNi9SYFb4
Allah has created Man in a very unique form. He has given man intelligence and blown into him a spirit which makes him human. When Allah instructed the angels to prostrate to Adam (A.S) they were not just prostrating to his physical body, but rather the spirit within him. We all possess this soul yet it is often given little attention.
We indulge in many physical pleasures in this life, often neglecting our soul and depriving it of nourishment. Our souls are important, just as our bodies, in being sustained and satiated. If the body is created from the Earth then its nourishment comes from the Earth. Our souls are heavenly and therefore its nourishment must also be celestial and heavenly.
Find out from this talk the importance of the soul and how we can look after it, ensuring that it remains nourished with a close connection to Allah.
