Dr. Han Ren (she/they, Ph.D) is a different kind of psychologist. She works to decolonize mental health and what we know about therapy using practices informed by intersectionality, anti-oppression, and liberation. How can people with hyphenated identities across the BIPOC, queer, and immigrant communities both express themselves authentically and protect themselves in the post-DEI political trainwreck we live in now? Why are so many overachievers highly anxious? (hint: it may be trauma)..
In this special episode, Dr. Charleanea sits down with Luis Cornejo (he/they), therapist, speaker, model, and host dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. The two talk about the hard truths of the mental health field and why they both decided to leave the systems that often work against the people they promise to help, especially BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people. The two queer therapists have similar experiences facing hell— racism, disrespect, being taken advantage of—before they jumped ship to create their own practices. Doing things their way has allowed them to give underrepresented and underserved communities the care that they deserve.
If you’ve wondered why you can’t seem to find a mental health professional who get it and you, Dr. Charleanea has been there. And she’s here to speak on it.

In this episode of She Is Mother, Dr. Charleanea interviews her client whom she has coached over years, Esperansa Cervantes aka Espi.
Since being in middle school, Espi has committed herself to being a champion of opportunity for low-income people of color in her community in Colorado, creating a program at only 13 to save her middle school from being shut down. However, even today, she struggles with taking up space and breaking out of “playing small,” something she’s had to do her entire life. Dr. Charleanea guides her through a conversation about overcoming self doubt once and for all and owning yourself as a woman of color.
In this episode of She is Mother, singer and songwriter Angie Stevens walks us through her journey with suicide and depression in her family and her own life. Together, she and Dr. Charleanea dive into their relationship that started out in the therapy room and has since become a deep and lasting friendship.
Can creating heal trauma? What is the impact of therapy and coaching? How can we move forward from stigma when silence kills? It's your look into session, wherever you are.
Now more than ever, trans and nonbinary people must be protected and recognized. In this episode, Dr. Charleanea speaks with Bailey Buckles, transgender activist and outdoor adventurer + athlete. The two talk about Bailey's journey through loss and love in becoming exactly who she is, dealing with addiction, and coming to the outdoors as a source of healing.
Talking about the things that matter, Dr. Charleanea offers a window into session, wherever you are.
Dr. Charleanea brings us into her first coaching session with a nontraditional relationship: a queer, polyamorous unit. Dylan, S, and Jonathan have been navigating a relationship "V" and are at an impasse. Dylan, at the center of the unit, wants openness with love and intimacy. Jonathan, who is nearly ten years older, wants to buy a home and start a family. How can these two navigate a deeper relationship while meeting their respective needs? What happens when the nature of a relationship changes, and when that relationship consists of three people? Are polyamorous relationships possible, or does jealousy get in the way?
In this episode, Dr. Charleanea walks us through a relationship that breaks the mold as a queer person herself. It’s not your average conversation or “couple”. It’s your personal look into the session, wherever you are.
We all know what it's like to feel lonely-- it's universal. But not as many of us know how it affects our health and lives and how to actually deal with it.
In this first episode of SHE IS MOTHER, Dr. Charleanea Arellano (PhD) dives into the research and real impact of loneliness with her son, Esteban: visual artist, organizer, and Harvard graduate. The two discuss how their backgrounds as queer POC led to deep feeling of loneliness, what working with clients has taught her, and how we can come out of the epidemic that is affecting all generations, especially younger ones.
