  • 151: Lindsay Mayuga- The Working Mom Dilemma

The invisible load of being a mom is nothing anyone can prepare you for. You have your own dreams and aspirations, and at the same time, you are tasked with raising a human. That human gets SICK, has feelings, needs, and their own unique life to live. Fast forward, it's a lot! I love being Birdie's mom, and I still want to be Lindsay! As stylists, we can move around schedules, yet we cannot "work remote" and what a combination it is. It's a lot of doing the next right thing and then the next right thing.

  • 150: Lindsay Mayuga - Leaving It at Work

I recently had an Instagram post about creating the space to live my life outside of the salon without thinking about everyone's appointments/business stuff, and it got me thinking? How do I do that? For me, it happened when a lot of things blew up at once in my life, and it brought me to the realization of how insignificant and significant I am! How much of life would go on without me and how if I didn't color Pam's hair, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I love what I do, and doing it with this attitude makes it a career I didn't know was possible.

  • 149: Lindsay Mayuga - Known for Something

Are you for a certain kind of person? Or Are you meeting everyone's needs that enter your salon? I had an experience recently that got me thinking. When we show up all in on what we do, we attract people like a magnet. When we vanilla ourselves to meet everyone's needs, we lose! We lose our passion, correct audience, and so much more. Double down on what you love and watch it all work out.

  • 148: Lindsay Mayuga - Changes

Change is a funny thing. Some changes we don't notice, some we wonder how we even functioned before them, and some are hard. The way we navigate change says a lot about how we love ourselves.

  • 147: Lindsay Mayuga - What The Inflation?

If you are a hairstylist in 2022, then you know about inflation. Covid has flipped the script in our businesses, that is for sure. If you did not adjust your prices when covid began, you have found inflation to be the straw that broke the camel's back. Our businesses have changed and our pricing has to follow suit.

  • 146: Jessie Fisher - Impress Less Connect More

Jessie Fisher is an actress, artist, doula, dog mom, and more. Her career as an actress has many parallels to being a hairstylist. As impressive as Jessie is, her mantra this year is to impress less and connect more. We have a choice at any given moment, and choosing one costs us the other.

  • 145: Lindsay Mayuga - People, Pedestals, & Perception

I have a confession; I am notorious for putting people on pedestals. I am now aware of it, and I work hard not to put people up there. It's the kiss of death in any relationship when I put my rose-colored glasses on, and I hoist a person up on that pedestal. It's wild because it says so much more about me than others. I have learned to take all that energy I put into other people and infuse it into my own life.

  • 144: Lindsay Mayuga - The Through Line

In my opinion, how we do one thing is how we do everything. I can look back on my life and see how my personal life, career, and life have had similar setbacks! When we get honest with ourselves, we all have patterns that play out in all parts of our lives. Our lives have a through-line, which means our businesses reflect what is going on in our inner world. It's learning how to grow through what we go through.

  • 143: Kellyn Mackenzie - What Does Owning a Salon Cost?

Kellyn is back, and we are going for it! Kellyn and I both opened our first salons in 2014. We had partnerships that ended around the same time and rebuilt our businesses around the same time. We are dishing on the amount of money we each spent to open our salons and all we learned along the way! We share every face plant and piece of wisdom that has come from each setback. We need to get honest about the costs associated with owning and operating a salon. When I say costs, I don't always mean financial costs either. Often the things that cost us the most are not renewable resources.

  • 142: Dana Frost - You Can Go Your Own Way

Dana Frost is one of the most insightful people I have ever met. She started as my client behind the chair and has become one of the people I admire most in my life. Dana has an impressive resume as a life coach and many life experiences that have given her such wisdom. She has spent many hours in the salon having her hair colored. If you are struggling to honor yourself, this episode is for you! We need to let go of what we "should" be doing and replace it with "choosing" this. The more we live outside of ourselves, the more we lose ourselves and cover up the pain by keeping up appearances.
